This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy with 37,000 mainly driven in the winter. I am the original owner of the car. Within the past month I heard a very loud sound in the front. When taken to the dealership was told that the right front wheel bearing was so bad that a few more miles and the tire would have come off. They said the left wasn't any better, but could go another month. I only had enough money that day to fix the right. When I called the customer relations of GM, they told me they would investigate and get back to me. I was later told that they would only repair the left, but that I had to pay for the one only fixed (even though it was the worst), because the car was so old! it is no longer under warranty. They told me the dealership was going to pay for the left repair, but when I called the dealership, they said it was the manufacturer. After investigation, I see that Canada ordered a recall for this vehicles wheel bearings failing at 70,000km for Jimmys 1998-2001, but no similar recall in the us. Both the dealership and GM told me I was lucky they were paying half. I do not believe wheel bearings should fail at 37,000 miles. I see similar owners complaining of multiple replacements for the same problem.
The brakes did not operate when they were applied and coming to a complete stop. Took vehicle to dealer for a check up, and results showed that the wheel bearings needed to be replaced. Dealer will repair them at owner's expense.
Consumer went to the dealership for an oil change and roll test, and the dealer stated the vehicle needed a right front wheel bearing. Vehicle only has 54,722 miles on it.
The consumer noticed that the vehicle would vibrate while driving. The vehicle was serviced by the dealers technician who determined that the wheel bearings on both sides needed to be replace.
