This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The front passenger seat does not roll forward at times. It does not lock in place at times either. It has been "fixed" a total of 18 times. The blower fan has also been "fixed" a total of 8 times. It, too, does not work properly all the time.
The driver side seat back collapsed backwards while vehicle was in motion. The driver grabbed steering wheel to avoid falling backwards and crashed into a gravel pit as a result. The knobs that control the seat have been frozen and inoperable for three years. The driver's seat wouldn't latch and slid back several times while the vehicle was being driven.
The lower seat frame for the drivers seat in my 1995 GMC Sierra 4 wd 1/2 ton pickup has broken during acceleration into traffic. This breakage allows the seatback to rotate backward and to the right tilting the driver back and obscuring view of the highway. This was repaired once in 1996 under waranty. Then repaired again at my cost in 2000 and has broken again today. Each time this failure has occured the truck was being accelerated into traffic flow. This vehicle, although designed for off road usage has only been used on city streets. This seat failure is not a fun situation to experience and loss of control of the vehicle is very likely. I am 6'4" tall and seat position may have some influence on the failure due to the seat sets behind the base that mounts it to the floor. I personally have been told by other owners that this is not unique to my personal truck. The mfg. Doesn't acknowledge any awareness of this occurance being a problem.
Consumer was putting a wallet in his back pocket while sitting in the driver seat and all of sudden the high seatback broke off into the rear. Today while his wife was leaning in the passenger side seat and it broke off into a reclining position. Contacted the dealer.
While driving the truck the seat on the driver's started to tilt backwards due to the cracking of the seat frame. The dealer will be repairing the seat.
