Driving on the highway and engine stalled on me and wouldnt go. So I rolled over to the side of the highway to pull over. When I stop the car, I see smoke coming from under dash board and under hood. So I get out real fast and open hood. I look down in front of the engine and the engine is on fire. I poured some water on it but did not put it out. Called 911. And backed away. Fire put its self out before 911 got there. Had it towed to Firestone. In examination. They said engine piston blew a hole on the side of the engine. I just bought the car used and had it for 4 months when this happened. Now I am stuck paying for a car that is sitting in my driveway because it is in operable. I cannot afford $10000 for another motor to be installed, which was what I was quoted.

Motor started knocking louder and louder at 85,000 miles. Brought vehicle to a GM dealer where they replaced; timing chain, balance chain, tensioner, and valves. GM only claims responsibility for the timing chain, though that part breaking caused far more damage to the motor. GM has knowingly put and kept out their bad 4-cylinder ecotech motors from 2010-2013. Their class action lawsuit stipulations disqualify most vehicles that are affected. My vehicle is currently broken down due to the same issue, I can't rely on the motor to get me where I'm going without dying at a stop sign or running completely out of oil 2,000 miles after having an oil change. While breaking on a highway my motor will rev up, as if it's trying to accelerate while I'm trying to slow down.

Multiple times my GMC stalls while in movement. Does it when I am making turns driving slow speeds or backing up. Multiple times it has resulted in my vehicle almost being hit. Big problem I am having as well is that oil seems to burn fast. I get my oil changes regularly but have to go back into shop between oil changes for them to put more oil in as its burning out so quickly. I am not leaking oil at all!! these two things have been a constant problem being a mom I am scared to have M uh kids in the car that it may malfunction while they are in it and result in an accident. Recalls should be in place to fix these problems as they are serious problems.

My car shut off once while I was in idle at a red light and second time when I was backing up into a parking spot some one who was driving opposite me could have hit me when the car abruptly stopped. Luckily they were going very slow and stopped when my car stopped. The engine shuts off as well as the lights on the dash but when you put it in park and start it up again the engine starts back up and no check engine lights appear. Can you please look into this?

My GMC Terrain 2011 is having trouble accelerating, and I hear a noise from the engine. When I am at a stop light and I try to accelerate, it pulls and doesn't go forward. It's stalking my Terrain. I did some research, and I found that this vehicle has a recall #12313D- special coverage adjustment- engine balance chain and fuel pump. I looked up, and it seems this vehicle has 0 unclaimed recalls. So, I'm concern because this vehicle is stalling and not working as it should be. The recall does say, 'if left untreated, could cause the chain to break, leading to engine damaged.

Transmission failure with no warning, torque converter replacement $3,500 around 120K miles. Check engine light unable to be diagnosed or repaired succesfully since 100K miles. Code P0420 with no catalytic converter issues. Every O2 sensor replaced, code will not clear. Stalls without any warning, low RPM, rough idles, engine just shuts down. No dash indicator lights illuminate when failure occurs. Restarts. Oil must be changed early as it seems to consume too much. Undiagnosable. Have been told by every mechanic it could be computer related, timing chain related, regardless this 4cyl GMC has too many complaints for yheae issues not to have a recall. It is incredibly dangerous when random engine failure occurs and I have had more close calls fearing for my life in this vehicle than I can recall at this point. I have spent almost the value of this vehicle in major repairs in the year I have owned it.

  • 81,000 miles
The contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. While driving, the transmission was shifting into a lower gear and the vehicle could not exceed 2 mph. The vehicle was pulled over and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine seized. The contact researched and learned that the failure was due to the engines of the 2011 GM models. Denooyer Chevrolet (127 wolf rd, albany, NY 12205, (518) 458-7700) stated that there was no recall for the failure and admitted that there was no way the contact could have known the engine would seize. The manufacturer agreed with the dealer and informed the contact that they had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and pay for labor costs. The manufacturer stated that they may consider paying 10% of the total repair cost. The vehicle was currently at the independent mechanic and had not been repaired. The manufacturer called back and stated that they might help pay off the vehicle loan as long as the contact purchased another GM vehicle. The failure mileage was 81,000.

Excessive oil consumption. Have to put 1 to 2 quarts every 300-500 miles. Even after just having an oil change and tune up. Car also gets jerky when driving and it is switching between gears - I have an automatic. Can happen when at a stop and then going or happen in the middle of driving while accelerating.
