One day the overhead lights stopped turning off when all of the doors were closed. I just have to keep them turned off which is a pain when you're getting into your car at night.

Sonata GLS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 117,000 miles

I'm gentle & treated this car well since day 1 of owning it. Purchased used at 24,xxx

To add to the list of growing little electrical problems, now the overhead lights will not turn off when in the door position. For a couple days it was intermediate, not its permanently on, unless I turn the switch to off completely.

After researching it appears most users have to replace the entire overhead console light assembly to resolve the issue. Then most users report it started happening again a short time later.

roof console lights stay on and drain battery

The center console light stays on. The switch has three positions, off-door-on In the door position, Normal operation the light turns on when the door opens and shuts off when the key is activated. It again turns on when the key is switched to the off position and remains on for a short time after the door is locked.

However, the light stays on while driving and after the key removal draining the battery. The light had to be manually turned off to drive and while exiting the car. I don't know if this is a door switch or a problem within the console switch itself. Still testing.
