02/2022 we started on the oil consumption program as our 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited has been burning oil for quite some time. Our first indication there was a problem with the Sonata came this time last year and that was the "add oil" indicator light came on every time we drove on a curve. I checked the oil at that time, and I could barely get a reading on the dipstick. However, we did bring it into Hyundai Service Center in Nashua, NH but none of the three employees in the service center ever mentioned the Oil Consumption program. They did do an oil change.
Starting in June of 2021 I have added 1 to 2 quarts of motor oil every 900 to 1500 miles. We finally were added to the oil consumption program 02/2022, I had to bring the car in on 4/29/2022 and 6/2/2022 for Hyundai to top off the oil with 2 quarts on each of those days. Our Sonata broke down in our driveway on Monday, 6/5/2022. On Wednesday, 6/8/2022 our tow truck operator had indicated when he started the car, it would require an engine replacement due to catastrophic engine failure. On 6/9/2022 we spoke with Hyundai service department, they told us that we had a catastrophic engine failure, we lost combustion on cylinder 1 (130 psi) and cylinder 4 (120 psi) these should be at 300 psi each, and a new engine would need to be ordered. Initially, we were told (last week) that it would take Hyundai corporate almost 30 days to decide on the paperwork, and then "if all goes well, we should see our car in 2 months. Two days ago, Hyundai service said we should hear something back by the end of the week. Then 2 weeks later to have the new engine ordered and in, then another 2 weeks for it to be installed and tested.
Our Hyundai dealer doesn't provide loaner cars, they said we should contact HMA to determine what they reimburse us for a rental. Any ideas?
I was on the road for playing softball when the engine started to make a noise that I've never heard before. There was a sound like huge vibrations, then after the check engine sign started to blink and the engine start to knock. I had to tow the Car and It cost me 600 $ with the result the engine is done with only 80,000 KM. That's a very upsetting situation - how can an awful engine like this one could have been on the market for so long?
My engine started rattling and had an engine knock as I was traveling at 55 MPH. Engine then stalled and overheated and car started beeping saying that the car was overheated. Had to get it towed 2 hours back to my dealership, who confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced under a recall on the 2.4L Theta II engines. Took 3 months to get a new engine replaced, but a loaner car was provided. All towing expenses were also reimbursed.
