On Nov. 4 2020 at 2pm, while driving on F8 East freeway entering the turn onto CA125, my 2015 Hyundai Tucson's engine blew without warning. The dash lights lit as the car lost power the hood blew open and shut and my 31yr old daughter was forced to allow the car to glide to the side of the freeway. In a dangerous spot..she could not see in front of the car until the hood fell back down. The danger is the fact there were no previous warnings, the hood blew up and the car had stopped where there was not sufficient space for other cars to pass without tapping my side mirror and a huge trail of oil left behind. She got over to the passenger seat quickly and rolled down the windows since it was hot out. First she called emergency roadside assistance to tow the car off the freeway. They took over 2 hrs to arrive.while many cars drove quickly by barely missing my car. She called me next in fear of her life and then called her dad and he stayed on the phone with her until the tow arrived.I only have had this car for 1 year. I had an oil change on June 23, 2020 from reg oil to a synthetic blend. Upon calling Hyundai customer care it was suggested to tow the car to the nearest dealer for investigation to see if its covered by warranty. The engine is severely damaged the bearings were destroyed and a rod thrown. The oil filter was blown off. My car had no previous leaks. There is a class action against Hyundai/Kia for my cars year but with theta 1 and !! engines. Mine is a gasoline direct engine that also has problems per car complaints.com. What also makes this particularly dangerous is that I use this car frequently to Transport my 11yr old disabled grandson to rady children's hospital for medical appts since he has cerebral palsy and poor head and neck control. Something like this could have not only snapped his neck but also cause massive fatalities on the freeway..

There was a recall on my car which followed under the campaign 958 which was unknown to me until my car engine seized while driving on I-5 highway. Due to the fact I did not know of the recall when this incident happened I had to get it towed to the closest auto shop. They were unsure of what caused the seize and tried to replace the starter (cost around $340). The auto shop got it to turn on but then heard a loud knocking in the engine and suggested if I called Hyundai dealership to see if there is a recall because they would have to replace the engine. I called and got the confirmation that there was a recall and got it towed to their parking lot(around $98). I believe it was a Monday when it made it to the parking lot and said the techs would have to check it out and send up an approval if the engine is covered and till the confirmation came through I would have to get a rental out of pocket. So from Monday to Thursday I had to get a rental through enterprise(around $350) because on Thursday I received a call from the dealership stating that I was approved and could get one of the dealership rentals till the repairs were made which resulted in my entire engine being replaced. I had their rental I believe from Friday to the next Thursday and then I was able to pick my car up. After all was said and done I submitted to the reimbursement branch all the expenses I paid with the receipts that was early July when I got confirmation that it was received. Since then I have reached out numerous times trying to get an update for how long it would take and if I could speak to a supervisor or even have the person working on my case removed to somebody else to make things work faster. I was told they don't have supervisors and that my claim is with higher management for approval and that it has been there since the 6th of August.

On numerous occasions oil filter has blown out leaving me with no oil in the engine. Most recently, it happened when I was passing another vehicle at aprox. 37 mph on a state road. I am uncertain the cause of the incident where I lost all of the engine oil but I would hazard to guess the system which controls oil pressure is not working properly and the pressure get so high for the increased RPM needs it blowes out the weakest point.

In around August 2018, I was driving my 2015 Hyundai Tucson gls back from work on a high way. That all (for no reason) the indicator on the dashboard lights up, the vehicle shakes and come to a halt. I towed to dealership where the maintenance had been done since the purchase date. It was checked and reported as a damage to the oil pan. But, they said it has hit a stationary object (this was a lie) but there was no stationary object on the highway as many vehicle were going by. I was on the left shoulder of the fast lane. Because I did not agree with the dealership diagnose, I knew an object has broken from the inside of the engine and strike it way out of the oil pan. Mileage during the incident was at 73,437. I think this vehicle should be recall for this many reported object damaging the oil pan. My insurance had to pay for a new replace engine but to end up with a used engine charge $4500. A picture (document) uploaded will show exit damage from the broken metal from inside the engine.

While driving on interstate a lack of power when accelerating was noted. Highest car would travel was around 60 mph. Engine was revving but no speed could be gained. Have repeatedly had this issue which is extremely dangerous.took it to dealer they said vehicle is fine and there are no recalls on vehicle. Called Hyundai to complain and voiced that many other have experienced this same issue. They stated vehicle is not under warranty so there is nothing they are willing to do and that the vehicle isn't currently under recall.

I bought this car as a lease return at 36K miles. I have taken it in for all the recommended services and also the oil changes at the recommended intervals. Never had an issue with the vehicle at all till now. At just over 70K miles I was driving at 75mph and the engine lurched and the vehicle went into limp mode. The fastest I could go was 60mph. The engine had a wicked knocking sound. Fortunately I was near a Hyundai dealership so I took it there. They said it needs a new engine. Thankfully I have the certified pre-owned warranty on the engine & powertrain up to 100K, so Hyundai is eating the cost. But it is still wildly concerning to me! I'll for sure be selling this car before it hits the 100K warranty.

I've done my regular maintenance on this vehicle since I've purchased. Drove to two places today, after second place on start up oil light came on with very loud engine knocking. Checked my oil to find none on the dipstick, filled back up with recommended oil and some of the noise went away. Still has very profound knocking noises in the engine block with lack of power. Bought this vehicle with 44,500 miles now has 50,500. Shouldn't have any trouble at this mileage at all. Taking to dealership to see what will be done. This vehicle has common problem but no recall for this particular vehicle.

My problem seems to be consistent with other drivers. I was driving home at night when I turned a corner and the vehicle jerked and then died. No warning signals came on. No leaking fluids. Vehicle wouldn't start up anymore. Bought a new battery and still unable to start the car. Took the vehicle to a mechanic tested the alternator and starter and neither one was the problem. The mechanic diagnosed it as a locked up motor. This is very dangerous and should be looked into.

On July 12, 2019, I was driving to my home at approximately 10:00 in the evening. I was approximately two miles from my house when my engine seized and the car stopped in the middle of a very dangerous intersection. I am very grateful that, thanks to my father and a good samaritan, I was able to get my car out of the street and I was able to get home. This could have been disastrous. I have since been told by an authorized Hyundai mechanic that my engine needs to be replaced. Considering the car only has 86,000 miles and all routine maintenance has been performed and no mechanic has ever said this was a potential issue before, I find this to be unacceptable.

Received 2 recall notices to have the engine control software updated with an anti-knock prevention feature. We updated the software at the dealer before the second letter from Hyundai which notified us that the software will limit engine performance and vehicle speed if actuated, and that we should take it to the dealer for repair should this occur. This is perceived to be a sales gimmick for Hyundai that is unavoidable if actuated. The Hyundai 1-800 help line could not answer the questions regarding an option to remove the software to avoid this event, or the cost to make the mandated repairs when they occur. They also promised a 120,000 warranty update notification that was never sent to us promised 3-5 days after installation. We perceive the software installation a safety issue because it commands your vehicle into a limiting state. The recall is labelled: Product improvement campaign number 953. 2015 Hyundai tiucson, a car we otherwise love, and a 3rd Hyundai in 7 years.
