Car was being driven from Norcross Georgia to Portland Maine for family relocation on June 13, 2023. Engine failed in Lexington Virginia. Towed the car to Bethlehem CT where the car originated. Personal mechanic said engine failure but covered under 10 year 100,000 mile warranty since there was about 93,000 miles on it. Had the car towed to a local Hyundai dealer in Watertown Connecticut shakers dealership on June 20, 2023. They confirmed engine failure and reported it to a Hyundai in International. They international wanted all kinds of tests before they would confirm. It was a warrantee repair or possible recall.

I was assigned a case manager, who said they are working on the the warranty issue. Since I was now living in Maine, I could not get a loaner car. She could not get me a loaner car in Maine because the car was in Connecticut. I could not get a loaner car in Connecticut because it was not allowed to go out of state. I was told I had to rent a car. And if the repair was approved, I would have to put in a request to get reimbursed for the car rental. Every week I have called my case manager and every week I get nothing new. It is now August 9. I went to the Shakers dealership on August 2 to talk to them one more time to see if they were any updates. They said a Hyundai asked for some very strange testing which they have never asked for before. I am getting the runaround. I had to purchase a new car. I did not buy a Hyundai! This is very disconcerting because they’re trying to find ways to avoid honoring the warranty. What is my records???

2015 Hyundai Tucson purchased new in August 2015.

April 2021 at 167K miles - engine failure with no warning signs.

Contacted Hyundai to get some ideas of what might have caused this, but of course no response from them. Not that it matters to anyone but me, I will not purchase another Hyundai product.

One morning I had a reliable vehicle - that afternoon I had no vehicle!!

What a nightmare and it's still not fixed!!

My son and I were driving on the highway and all of a sudden, lost engine power and the check engine light came on. We pulled over and didn’t smell or really hear anything so we took the car back home. The next day we took the car to Ideal Hyundai in Frederick, Maryland (where the car still sits) and they advised that our Tucson was part of the Theta Class Action Lawsuit for engine failure. They said we should have received a recall notice for a software update but we absolutely never did! They called us back and said since we did not have the update, that Hyundai declined our engine claim.

We contacted Hyundai multiple times and the crazy thing is, they had the wrong address and wrong phone number on file. I asked how we were responsible for their negligence in contacting us and they basically said, there was nothing they could do. Now we sit here still making payments on a vehicle that we can’t even drive because Hyundai WILL NOT honor their engine failure. We even had receipts from a recent oil change at a reputable shop in our area, proving that it was not due to lack of maintenance. We need help!!

May of 2020 I took car to dealership, and told them there's no power going up hills and car feels like it has low compression. They said blocked catalytic converter, and I had to pay 2500.00 bucks. (It's not covered on warranty, and I am the second owner). I tried to get them to tell me why this would happen, and they said probably bad parts. I told them that the car uses a lot of oil, and they said that's normal for this vehicle.

Then 14 months (09/21) later, it occurred again with a CE code p2121 lean on bank one. They replaced catalytic converter and exhaust again. Hyundai paid 80% and I paid 550.00 bucks, then had spark plugs changed per dealer suggestion, 80.00 more bucks.

Then same symptoms reoccured again in 04/2022. Now dealer says cat. converter is ok, but it needs new fuel injectors, to which Hyundai would not cover, and of course it's now out of warranty (120,000 miles on it now.)

They did injectors and car still has low power, service says that I have... wait for it... a 75% leak down in #2 cylinder, and 21% leak down in cylinder 3 and 4. Number 1 cylinder only has 8% leak down.

SO LOW COMPRESSION!! Which I said to them in 2020, now it needs new engine and Hyundai won't pay because it isn't under any campaigns.

Help!

While driving on the freeway, the engine lost power. I made it to the side of the road and had to have it towed to the dealer. The dealer said the engine is no longer getting compression or combustion and needs to be replaced. They spoke with Hyundai, who is only willing to cover some of the cost of the replacement. The total is $12,733, and for my portion it would be $6366.50. They are offering no rental. There are no other options other than to completely replace the vehicle. It is only a 2015 and has less than 75,000 miles on it. This should not be happening. Only normal vehicle use, and still owe $14,000 on the loan for the vehicle.

Hyundai Tucson taken care of the whole time. Car is only 5 years old, it’s already falling apart. Oil pan leaked and caught on fire 🔥. Lost power, no warning signs temp was fine. Only thing noticed was no power while pushing the gas pedal down, but by then it was too late. Now I have to see if it will be covered under warranty. I’m the first owner and I have extra coverage, plus it’s a know problem with their cars and suvs. What a pain in the ass. Car is almost paid off, then this sh*t happens. Unbelievable.

UB Driving in Winnipeg Manitoba sold me a 2015 Hyundai Tucson. They stated there was a 150,000km power train warranty. I signed papers on August 20th and engine blew in October. The engine sign came on once and they stated it could be anything including the gas cap. They suggested I check the gas cap, which I did and the light shut off. Weeks later the light came on again, so I did the gas cap thing again. As I drove up a hill I lost power. The vehicle died out once on top of the hill. I had it hauled to the nearest Hyundai dealer, which was 68km away. When I called the dealership, they stated that the motor was blown.

I was driving on the expressway doing only 50mph and I heard a loud noise coming from the engine. Shortly thereafter, the engine stopped running. It just died. There was no indicator that illuminated. There was no indication that the vehicle needed service. There was only a loud noise, then it stopped. My mileage at the time was 57,000. The dealership is trying to blame me for negligence so I provided receipts of my oil changes and evidence of these consistent complaints about the Hyundai Tuscon engines.
