4th cylinder wall excessive scoring

You know what, its my fault for buying this brand. i thought i had peace of mind in my first big purchase (over25k). Now I'm left with over 15k owing. a engine swap not covered under warranty because its labeled as DIY even though my grandpa is a certified mechanic in this country(canada) whos helped with all 16 oil changes done. The dealership just said too bad. I'm only glad about one thing, and that is I get pleasure of getting rid of this tucson, im never buying from this Hyundai brand again. THESE ENGINES ARE KNOWN TO HAVE INTERNAL ISSUES. the 2.0L should have a lifetime coverage on them. even if a engine swap was covered id want a rebuild not a swap. fix the issues, not swap it for another crap one.

Now my recently retired grandfather feels like sh*t for helping me save money on my oil changes. I have all my receipts for the engine air filters (6), oil filters(19+) and oil containers (20+) (3 PCV valves) (still have all my used oil in the containers in my back yard) i have my most trusted mechanic i could possibly know help me with at least the basic oil change, since it only takes under a half hour/ hour max when he fully looks over the suv and tells me what i should get serviced/ fixed. However since he's got a life too (busy),and its a bother at times being a mechanic in the family so the other services (time consuming ones) i did do at various hyundai dealers based off where I'm working at that current time, for peace of mind. or MR. lube(because I'm sitting in the car at mr.lube that was the coolant there along with same day tire install on rims) I have got coolant, brakes, awd, trans fluids changed and did a spark plug change, belt change, brakes, fuel induction etc.) he was however getting concerned with the oil consumption recently the past 6 months going from 50ml-100ml between oil changes back around june 9 2023, to me having off to top up weekly as of recently just to hopefully make it to school. About a year ago (april 4 2025 it was burning about 500ml -1.0L per 6000km he thought it wasn't great but some engines burn oil as they age so to check the dip stick on a level surface and top up as necessary.) so with it being as bad at it is now with oil loss i got a engine inspection in my most recent visit to the hyundai dealer...along with the fact my AC wasn't working so its still under warranty let them go check it out.... well damn 4th cylinder wall has excessive scoring and I'm screwed. engines not covered, but they covered the AC repair though yay me!

Guess what, I'm POSITIVE after doing the research i have that the ONLY reason this car is still part of the 9/10 Hyundai's on the road IS because of the Religious oil changes before hitting 6000km and weekly top ups..... if i did the 10,000km oil changes the dealers recommend the engine would be blown already.... im at the point im either rebuilding the engine or swapping it out and taking the $15,000 loss and just forget i ever drove this pile of junk. (im getting a new car in the coming weeks) Due diligence was put into the maintenance of this vehicle. DO NOT BUY Hyundai, buyer beware mid to late 2010's ALL garbage, and ill never know if they fixed it or not with newer cars because i don't care about any future with this brand.im just lucky I'm a union ironworker, ill be okay financially in the long run but in the moment im left with a ticking time bomb.

I saw a honda accord the other day with 800,000km+ original motor and tranny, and made me smile that some cars do get that high, i just wont see a hyundai that high without multiple rebuilds. i might get lucky to see 180,000km but all i can do i drive it till is stops dead on the side of the road. Gods speed. oh not to mention my low oil light doesnt work in this car.

Excessive cylinder wall scoring in 2015-2020 Hyundai Tucsons (typically 2.0L or 2.4L engines) is a widely reported issue. IF THE 2.4L is on the recall the 2.0L should be too. While not as prone to sudden engine seizures as the 2.4L engines, the 2.0L models can still suffer from premature rod bearing wear and sensor malfunctions.
