Panoramic sunroof stopped closing sometime back in 2020 or 2021 but it was never taken to the Hyundai dealership to be diagnosed and fixed until it hit 62,000 miles at which time we were told that it was not covered under warranty anymore and it would be approximately $7,700 for a full replacement of the panoramic sunroof cartridge system as it was not repairable, only replaceable by the dealership.

This is an absolutely ridiculous price so obviously we did not pay to have it fixed. I have heard there's a class action lawsuit about this already for other cars from Hyundai and would just like it fixed. If not, if Honda wants to buy the car back from me then great. Since that time the car was sold to another member in the household so the original owners warranty no longer applies I was told when I asked about a transmission issue as well.

It was a beautiful day and my wife had the car to pick up our son from school and opened the panoramic roof. When she got home and tried to close it it would only close about half way. Contacted dealer and advised they have no appointments. (we are a one car family.) I put some grease on the sunroof rail and tried, waited and tried again with out any success. Over night we place a tarp over the card to keep dew and bugs out. Managed to find a local mechanic for assistance. They managed to get it closed, sun shade is half open/closed. We where informed it could cost about $5000.00 to fix as it would need a whole new panoramic sunroof assembly. We are keeping it closed and I placed a piece of duct tape over the sunroof control as to not accidently open it again.

Sunroof fully opens just fine. But around 12/2020, it began closing very slowly. Then one day in the winter up in the mountains of Utah around 3/2021, the sunroof was closing very slowly to the point where it was 6 inches from shutting completely, then suddenly it reverted back to the full open position. I tried multiple times to close it again but it would not go all the way, and instead would get about half way closed then reversed to open. A few hours later I started my car and it finally shut completely (though it was still very slow and almost came to a stop). This problem is still present during all scenarios and seasons, so I think I can rule out anything being weather related.

Brought it to a dealership in 11/2021, telling them it seemed like an issue with the motor dying out. They acted like I was stupid and claimed that the sunroof rails/tracks were just dirty and that they could fix it by cleaning the tracks and re-applying spray-on grease. I was very skeptical of this solution. Leave my car there for a day, they claim it's all fixed, so I go to pick it up. Not only did they lie about half the stuff they reported on the inspection report (tire wear, tire pressure, oil life, etc.), and got spray-on grease all over the interior and dash of my car, the sunroof was STILL not operating properly. Call them the next day, bring my car back, they look at it again, still do not clean up the grease they got everywhere, and tell me "yeah, we think it is the motor for the sunroof." They ordered the new motor which had a few month waiting period for delivery. They received it recently so I will be scheduling a time to go have them replace it. Seeing their incompetence and unprofessionalism twice now, I'm not confident in their ability to even do the replacement. But I would like to be able to use my sunroof again without fear that it will not close, so we'll see if this solution works!
