I bought a 2008 Jeep Compass last year and the sub-frame is now rusted and needs to be replaced. The mechanic I went to said this is an issue and there may be a recall, so call the Jeep dealer first. There is no recall at the moment but I followed up with a call to Chrysler. Customer Service said the only way things get moved to recall status is after enough people call and it gets moved up. Even if you fix it on your own, once there is a recall you can be reimbursed. Please call and report your issue, all you need to provide is a description of the issue and the last 8 digits of your VIN

Went in to get a wheel bearings and lower ball joint replaced and when mechanic went to do an alignment, also discovered rear upper control arms and toe joints required replacing. Upon replacing these and going to another mechanic for an alignment, they immediately pointed to the forward cross member having corrosion producing holes in the part. I went in to Jeep to see if the 2008 was apart of the open warranty as with the 2007, but no. It seems to be the exact same part and the exact same problem... Expensive to fix it appears.

Purchased 2 Jeep Compasses (2007 Limited Edition and 2008). Both after 6 years have the front and rear frames completely rusted out which apparently is a known issue by Chrysler with their product and they will fix on the 2007 but not the 2008. My car, which I only paid off 6 months ago, is now totaled and not worth the 5k it would cost to fix it. Called Chrysler and they are completely unwilling to help with any of the cost to repair this issue. Take a look at the pictures of the bottom side of my Jeep. Shameful. I will never purchase a Jeep or Chrysler product again. And apparently being the only owner isn't a benefit at all. Paid Chrysler 60K for both Jeeps and they provided absolutely NO CUSTOMER assistance.

Don't buy Chrysler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if you own a Compass, please, the next time you're in for a oil change, please, please, please, have them check the bottom of your car and the frames specifically. It truly is a hazard and I could have been hurt.
