It is always the same thing the needs to be fixed. Plastic material that hold the blend doors break in the same spot. The cost averages $ $1400 to repair.

The defrost only works 50% of the time. Did not work while driving down the highway at 65mph. This was extremely dangerous as I could not see through the windshield. The next day was working fine and a week later I had the same issue. I had the heater core replaced and the issue is still happening.
My ac system is faulty. Hot and cold air blows at the same time. Windows constantly fog up and I can't see. Getting blend door codes on the climate control reader.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (wj), electrical wires melting at blower motor controller (resistor block) for heater /ac interior fan. Fire hazard as this circuit is hot even when the vehicle is off. Poor contact between the wire female spade connector and the blower motor controller male spade terminal caused excessive heat which resulted in the wires being charred and the blower motor controller housing melting. Device is located under the dashboard on the passenger side. I am ordering a harness and heater resistor to remedy this manufacturer defect. While my car did not catch on fire, this is clearly a fire hazard that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

Due to poor manufacturing and low quality parts, 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee have been subject to breakage of interior parts controlling the heating and A/C systems, including but not limited to the blend doors and actuator. This system breakdown can occur suddenly, and can affect both the A/C and heating systems. When this occurred to my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. It was in the dead of winter (Dec 2009) and the weather had been extremely cold. I was unable to properly defrost my windows, causing extreme difficulty in seeing out of my windshield and right side mirror. Because of this I was often having to roll down my windows--even if it was snowing--in order to drive safely to school and work. In March I took my car to a local Jeep dealership to get more information on this issue and I was told by one of the service advisor that this is a known problem in many Jeep, and is seen very frequently. Due to the problem being in the dash of the vehicle, the repair quote is over $1,300, and is not covered by my pre-owned vehicle protection plan with western general. Daimler-Chrysler has received thousands of complaints about this issue but refuses to recall a warranty or assist Jeep owners in repairing broken parts. I am not comfortable paying $1,300 and being penalized for daimler-Chrysler's mistake when, if repaired with the same parts, I could be facing this same issue again very soon!
I have been having troubles with the blender doors closing all the time on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have had the SUV for not even 3 years and the doors have closed 4 times already. 2 months ago they closed and it cost $1,200 to fix it, now 2 months later the doors closed again today 5/27/10. This is getting out of hand. These blender doors have a defect and Chrysler is not doing anything about it.
The heater failed in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is apparently a very common problem in this model. Previously the seat heaters overheated and the power steering hose failed.
Heating system in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed. I don't have defrost, heat. Have heard of numerous complaints from other Cherokee owners with the same problem.
Another blend door failure complaint. Passenger side went out and not only does it affect the defrosting ability on that side of the windshield, a passenger has no heat either. Blows cold air all the time. Chrysler has known about this problem with the cheap plastic parts used to manufacture the units but don't take responsibility for doing the right thing and fixing them for free. My Jeep had less than 50K on it when the failure occurred. I will never buy another Chrysler product. They are despicable.
Jeep Grand Cherokee blend doors. That all I have to say. The blend doors are junk. They break in every Jeep gc. It's a 1500 dollar job that Chrysler is aware of. It happens in all Jeep. The doors break, leaving the passenger compartment with no heat. Chrysler is aware of this problem. They have issued a tech bulletin, but still they do not recall this part. This is '!@#$%. they know about the problem. Fix it for the consumer already!
I am paying for a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased used in 12-06. I have had a problem with the heater 6 months after I purchased it used, which the dealer would not repair. I called Chrysler and no one returned my call until this month. I received a recall about the fan blades and took it into the shop. Prior to the shop appointment the check engine light came on, I asked the service tech to check why the heater was not working and why the check engine light was on. He called me to tell me that the recall part was on back order and that the blend motor and doors on the heater were broken and that the leak detection pump had gone out, which would prevent me from getting it inspected. He also told me that the heater plugs were melted and it needed a wiring harness replacement. The dash gets very hot which has melted the plugs but no heat is blowing into the vehicle. This could cause a fire inside the vehicle. Also the leak detection pump is an emissions problem and per federallaw has to be operating in order to pass inspection. I spoke with Chrysler and asked them to repair the vehicle and they laughed at me, telling me this vehicle had been out of warranty for 4.5 years. (it was out when I purchased it.)and if it were still under warranty then they would fix it. I also asked why if the recall had been out since 2006 then why was I just now getting it, and the part was on back order which tells me that I have been driving an unsafe vehicle.he also told me that the heater being broken was not a safety issue, it is due to not having heat to defrost windows and plugs melting could cause a fire. I have checked the web and there are so many web sites that talk about these problems with the Jeep that go back to 1998- 2005. Please help me I am out of work due the medical problems and I have a very tight budget. I have contacted the N.C. attorney generals office, Consumer Affairs, Chrysler, nat. Assoc. Consumer Affairs. At this point nothing has been done.-sharon
My 2002 grand Jeep Cherokee's heat stopped working and I was told that the actuator doors were gone. This was determined by the dealer. Now my heated seats have stopped working.the dealership gave me an estimate of about $1300 dollars to replace the doors.
