Transmission failed on a trip to Park City Utah. After speaking with three of my friends who also had 2004 Grand Cherokees 4.0L I found that it is a very common problem to have their transmission fail. One of my friends had the 04 4.0L special edition and had to replace his at 115,000. My other friend replaced his transmission 3 times over the life of the vehicle. Once at 80,000, once at 120,000, and the last time at 180,000. He owns an auto shop so he was able to replace for a lot cheaper than me. Really annoying that Chrysler would put such a crappy transmission with the legendary 4.0L. I do not know if the V8 has the same problem.
