This vehicle shifted itself into reverse and backed into another vehicle causing damage to both vehicles. The cost of the repairs exceeded $5,000.00 and Fiat/Chrysler assumes no responsibility for the damages. This vehicle has been a piece of junk from day one and I would never buy a Jeep again.

Bought my Jeep at a dealership with 35,000 miles on it. Before the 3,000 mile warranty expires I take my Jeep back to the dealership because of transmission problems. They tell me that it is the transmission pump so I need a new transmission. So this transmission is covered under the 100,000 mile 5 year warranty. They put a new transmission in it. Four months later, Jan. 14th, 2018, I started having transmission problems again. They said the transmission lines were leaking and needed to be replaced. This time it is not covered under warranty and it is going to cost me over $600.00 to replace. Why would you not replace the lines when you do a brand new transmission? The transmission does not work without transmission lines and transmission fluid, are you kidding me? This vehicle is not that old and I have only had it since June.

Dealer did cpu update July 7, 2016 - July 14, 2016 while transporting my Grandchildren from Columbia S.C. to Myrtle Beach S.C. the transmission over heated. The Car would not shift into park, the electronic system when haywire, car would not shut down, radio would not stop playing, forward warning system began clicking on and off, what a mess!

At the time i was less than a mile from a dealer, once at dealership we were able to shut the engine down. Now the mechanic cannot get the computer to communicate with the engine therefore, cannot get the vehicle started.

BOUGHT THIS CERTIFIED USED. WE KEPT THINKING THAT WE ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE PADDLES TO DROP THE VEHICLE DOWN INTO FIRST, BUT NOW DON'T BELIEVE THAT WAS THE CASE. WITH LESS THAN 32,000 MILES ON 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE, GETTING OFF FREEWAY ON SHARP TURN EXIT, THERE WAS A THUNK AND OUR BODIES LURCHED FORWARD AS VEHICLE DROPPED INTO 1ST GEAR. PULLED OVER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON BUT NOT BLINKING SO IGNORED AS DEALERSHIP SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT NOT CRITICAL IF NOT BLINKING. WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE, BUT TRANSMISSION SLIPPED UNTIL REACHED 20 MPH AND RAN OK UNTIL WE WERE HOME ABOUT 1/2 MILE AWAY. WE THEN TESTED THE SHIFTING AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. NEXT MORNING, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL IN ANY GEAR. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE REP CALLED THE NEXT MORNING INDICATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A NEW ONE TO REPLACE IT. IT WAS REPLACED WITH THE EXACT SAME PART NUMBER. SERVICE REP COULD NOT CONFIRM IF PROBLEM FIXED. IN FACT THEY ARE NOT CONFIRMING OR DENYING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR CHRYSLER 845 RE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH MORE THAN A FEW REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. IN FACT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN PROCESS BECAUSE CHRYSLER KNEW OF THESE PROBLEMS PRIOR THAN SELLING THE 2014/2015 MODELS BY THE END OF NOV 2013 FROM WHAT I AM READING.

WHAT IS BAD IS THAT WE HAD JUST GONE OVER DONNER PASS. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ONE WEE LATER ON THE SNOW COVERED AND ICY PASS. THE THOUGHT THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY ITSELF BRINGING US TO ALMOST A STOP COULD HAVE BEEN SO DANGEROUS. GUESS THAT IS WHAT CHRYSLER WANTS BEFORE THEY FIX THIS AWFUL TRANSMISSION...KILL SOMEONE.

After a little research it became more apparent that Chrysler building the ZF (Friedenshafer) 8HP tranny here in Indiana may be the source of many of the problems reported. I've noticed the resume acceleration hesitance for years in the JGC but this complete failure when punching it to on-ramp into hi-way traffic is more serious. Now that I've seen the scope of problems around this tranny I will be taking it back to Jeep dealer for a fix. I understand that ZF claims it is not mechanical but software related. I've gotten more recalls on this 2014 than any other JGC I've owned or leased so the synchronization of software and hardware in the power train appears to be a persistent issue.

Very concerning that a vehicle this new would have transmission issues. Makes me afraid for what's to come later. Chrysler Care Hotline is a joke. I contacted them about another issue with my vehicle and never heard back from them. This was months ago. Received a survey about how they did and let them know they did nothing ! Nada, no word at all. Never heard back from that either. My last Chrysler product. Didn't want to buy foreign but headed that way....

transmission failure

Driving home on a hot Summer afternoon from vacation with my pregnant wife. As stop and go traffic finally dissipates, I attempted to accelerate and the car lurches, the check engine illuminates and the transmission rests permanently in forth gear. We 'limped' the $54,000 vehicle off the expressway and into a parking lot in a community clearly scourged by methamphetamine and prescription painkiller addiction.

We first call Chrysler Roadside assistance. They advised me that a tow truck would tow us to the nearest Chrysler dealer and that they would call us back in 20 minutes with an ETA. As I waited, junkies scurried about in the parking lot while I attempted to get the car out of 'limp mode' and into gear. Eventually, only reverse and neutral were working. After an hour, Chrysler roadside assistance finally called and provided me an ETA of 2 hours. This was unacceptable, so I called AAA and they arrived within an hour.

The AAA driver pointed out, while loading the car onto the flatbed, that my transmission was leaking transmission fluid. By now, it was getting late and the technicians at the local dealership as well as the rental car companies were getting ready to close. I began to wonder if I should try and find a prescription painkiller dealer... My wife and I load into the cab of the tow truck and drive to the dealership. The very competent driver made some calls and found us a rental car location that would be open for another 90 minutes.

We arrive at the dealership (Hiller Dodge) about 30 minutes later and the dealer tech had already gone home. The tow truck driver attempted to unload the car but he couldn't get into neutral or reverse. We couldn't find the override switch anywhere in the console. I tried five times and the transmission wouldn't leave park. The driver had to employ a two ton jack to lift rear tires and essentially shake the new Jeep Grand Cherokee off the bed of truck.

The person at the dealership was extremely reassuring that they would look at it first thing in the morning but that they were extremely busy and probably wouldn't get it fixed for a few days. After an hour, the Jeep was off the flatbed and completely useless. The tow truck driver raced us over to the rental car place. We rented an ash try on wheels and found a place to stay for the night.

The next morning, I called Chrysler customer support and explained the situation. Chrysler explained that A) loaner cars and rental reimbursement is NOT covered by warranty and B) nothing can be done until the dealer makes a diagnosis. By noon, I called and checked with the dealer to see if they looked at the vehicle. They had it on the lift and had just begun. My wife and I agreed that it was very unlikely that the dealer would get the car fixed the same day and we had to go to work the next day so we started to drive home.

After 2 and 1/2 hours we stopped at a diner, ate and decided to call the dealer. As it turns out the dealership explained that the vehicle was being washed and I can come pick it up. We couldn't believe our ears. We drove back to the dealership in our rented Marlboromobile and found ourJeep shiny and ready to go. I wanted to hug the tech as he explained that there was a cooling line going into the transmission that wasn't properly installed by the factory and popped out, allowing all the transmission fluid to drain.

Thanks to Hiller Dodge, we drove home from vacation, albeit a day later, trouble free. The vehicle remained trouble free for another 5000 miles until....

September 20. My (still) pregnant wife (full term and can go into labor any day now) were on the highway on our way to get breakfast at the local diner and suddenly..limp mode. On the bright side, we happen to be within 2 miles from my local dealership. They're closed but I left them the keys and we took a taxi home.

At this point, we have 10.6k miles on the vehicle. I'm considering just selling it at a loss when it's finally fixed and buying a Lexus or Acura (and maybe an old Wrangler for off roading). I've never had trouble with those brands.

I called Chrysler customer service to complain but they're totally useless. Also, my local dealership's service department appears incompetent given my previous experience. Very frustrated.

Stay tuned. Wish me luck.

Drove car onto highway. About 2 miles down the road, the transmission disengaged. Left in the middle of the road. Could have had a terrible outcome if traffice did not veer off. Dealership tells me that the transmission software needed an upgrade. I bring it in for regular service and they always update whatever needs upgrading. How can it be that the transmission would just stop operating without warning? Less than a year old!

The response from the service manager "well you have roadside assistance" Great answer ! On a country road, a woman, alone in the dark, this is going to bring me comfort. Or how about in the middle of my 50 mile commute to work. Before or after I get rear ended?

We have had our Jeep for three months. It has only 3927 miles on it. My wife drives the car to work and has complained that the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been shifting hard, I never noticed it until nov. 28.

We were driving along and when it changed gears it jerked hard from 1st to second. Then the engine started skipping like a plug was fouling out. The check engine light came on at that time. There was no other noticeable problems until I stopped at an intersection. That's when everything became dangerous fast. The car came to a stop when I pressed the brake but when I tried to pull off it pulled a little into the street then just stopped pulling. That could have been deadly pulling onto a major freeway. The car Is now at the Dealers to find the problem. It's going to be hard to trust this vehicle for safety after a drive failure of that kind. Hopefully they can give me a good explanation on why it failed to pull at all. If you only had one gear that would pull it would be better than nothing.

Nov 172014

Grand Cherokee Summit V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,200 miles

On November 17th, after about 30 seconds driving forward, the car shifted from 2nd gear back to first gear. The car practically skidded to shift back to first. I was thrown forward in the car. Luckily, I wear my seatbelt.

It would not shift out of first after that. The engine light came on. I had it towed to the dealership where I bought it. They said something is wrong with the transmission. They said they could not fix the transmission, but would replace the entire transmission. They said with a car this new, they do not have the knowledge to fixing the transmissions. They replaced the transmission and drove it 200 miles. They said it is fixed.

I picked it up on a Monday, November 24 and drove it home. The next day, I had the problem again. When turning on 4 lane road (2 in one direction and two in another), the vehicle started to go across the intersection. It appeared to try to shift to 2nd, but the car stopped moving (like it was in neutral). I had to start blowing the horn as oncoming cars were coming at a high rate of speed. I could have killed.

I immediately called the dealership. They picked the car up and drove it back to the dealership. They ran numerous tests on the car and could not duplicate the problem. They called and told me the car was ready.

I have severe reservation about getting back in a vehicle that I could have been killed in and drive it away when I know, the dealership knows and Chrysler knows, they couldn’t duplicate the problem and they didn’t fix anything. So, basically, I will be driving a ticking time bomb that could blow up at any time. My wife, kids and grandkids could be in jeopardy and other drivers on the road. I paid over 50K for this vehicle, only to find myself stressed out over this fact. I cannot get back into this vehicle knowing nothing was corrected and I was almost killed.

Just like everyone else, my Jeep Grand Cherokee just quit working! And of course I was in the middle of the intersection! Seriously?!?! $46,000 and I have transmission problems with a brand new vehicle? The reason I am posting is because when I got back to the garage (2nd time for same issue) the service manager showed me a Chrysler recall about this problem so I wouldn't feel alone! Wow!

Here's the best part, Chrysler was aware of this problem in 11/2013 and sold the vehicles anyway! Yep, that's right, they knew! They actually started using a different transmission at the end of 11/2013! Good going Chrysler, sell bad vehicles so you don't have to take a loss! God forbid anyone is seriously injured because of this, I hope this info can help someone.

Update from Dec 30, 2014: Well, after a month of trying o get my vehicle fixed, I have gotten nowhere! Filed a complaint with Chrysler, no one will call me back. The dealership says I need to let one of their mechanics drive it for the weekend to see if he has any problems. (Only approx 1,000 miles will be put on my jeep. Is this guy going on vacation and using my vehicle to get there?) And since they can not get an engine code, then nothing is wrong and I'm making it up! Wow! This is my 6th brand new jeep and my last!

Grand Cherokee Summit 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 722 miles

How the hell does a brand new Jeep (722 miles) with this state of the art German engineered transmission fail. I mean the malfunction light came on and there was what appeared to be smoke coming out from the rear as I was doing 50 miles an hour. It turned out to be an oily mist and smoke from the same oil hitting the exhaust.

The Jeep suddenly goes into neutral on its own. I had to pull over and stop, the transmission would only go to park and then it wouldn't budge. I had to turn off the engine, turn it back on, and then it drove for a short distance before it went into neutral again. This happen six times in 12 blocks until I finally decided to call road assistance. MY brand new Jeep sat in the street leaking a clear oily fluid coming from the entire center under carriage. It's now in storage until Monday before the service center at the dealer can check it out.

Does anyone know if I can get a new car due to this type of failure?

Grand Cherokee Overland V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 3,000 miles

First started with very jerky downshift (7th to 6th, or 6th to 5th). Car then began not downshifting at all. If I were on the highway, went to 7th or 8th gear, I would exit the highway and car would stay in 7th or 8th gear. So when I went to accelerate again, say into traffic, I would have no acceleration...thus, pulling out into traffic with no ability to accelerate. I would have to turn the car off and then on again for it to go back into 1st gear...not something you want to do in the middle of an intersection.
