The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been at the dealer for over a month now. We have only owned it for 5 months and purchased it brand new.
We were driving to dinner (and had no cell service) when there was a very loud bang from underneath the Jeep. Every possible warning light came on and the car quickly came to a stop with the engine still running fine. It would not move in D or R. When I put into park it warned me it was not able to engage Park. We were able to put the car in neutral and then put the transfer case into Neutral then push it out of the middle of the road.
We called Jeep Customer Care since tow service is included - after getting a ride home from a neighbor we waiting for over two hours and were still unable to get a tow truck (we called Jeep Care twice to find out the status). We eventually cancelled the request and called our own tow truck which showed up in 20 minutes.
The dealer was able to look at the car a couple of days later and determined that the "Valve Body" had a problem and then ordered parts. Two weeks later the parts came in and then about another week for them to get installed only to find out that the new parts did not work. So here we are over four weeks later still waiting on a repair.
There is a positive, we did get a rental car. (albeit an 7 year old beat up one).
Update from Dec 31, 2019: They replaced the entire transmission and found that there was still a noise from the rear differential. The entire rear differential was then replaced. Root cause of the problem is unknown.
Vehicle appears to be working correctly after the repairs.
Total repair took over 75 days.
