This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty 6 months ago. I don't know if this has anything to do with the recall I received 2 weeks ago about lower ball joints but this has happened 5 or 6 times, when the road is wet and I apply brakes I start to slide and cant stop. One day I was going to make a right turn and all I could do was slide, I wasn't even able to make that turn. I have read other complaints and see there are a lot of other people having the same problem, shouldn't this be a safety recall. This Jeep has approx. 55000 miles.
Brakes locking up in slightest wet condition, car jerking badly when turning and almost impossible to turn (especially when reversing) when 4W drive engaged.
Consumer states that while driving and with no warning anti lock brakes will lock up while consumer is pressing the accelerator pedal, and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified.
When coming to a stop applied brakes and engine will rev, and tires spin. Vehicle was moving forward, consumer has to shut off engine to stop vehicle. This has happened 3 times. Vehicle was taken to dealer twice, could not duplicate the problem.
As we were going downhill on our street I applied the brakes to come to a stop at the end of our road. The brakes went straight to the floor.we rolled out onto hwy 61-67 where we collided with an oncoming van.thankfully there were no injuries.we have recieved no assistance from the dealer or Chrysler.we purchased the vehicle for the safety of our yet to be born child and were nearly killed due to faulty brakes in a three month old vehicle.my wife is five months pregnant. The airbags failed to deploy as well. This is a very dangerous problem.
When braking to slowdown pedal becomes spongy. After 5-8 seconds braking action stops. This does not happen when braking to attempt a complete stop. Dealer determined that master cylinder needed to be replaced, but part was not available.
