While driving the vehicle the airbag indicator light began to flash and an audible alarm sounded. Now I am concerned that our vehicle has same defect with the airbags inadvertently inflating as being investigated by the NHTSA. The vehicle airbag system has never been deployed or serviced or replaced.

While traveling eastbound the car in front of me stopped all of sudden due to car in front of them changing direction from turning to going straight. I crashed into the rear of the car in front of me. My Jeep has extensive damage. The airbags did not deploy. My passenger and myself had head injuries and knee injuries had the airbags deployed there wouldn't have been no injuries. Something needs to be recalled about this problem.

My airbag light came on back in June. After reading about the un-intentional deployments I went to the dealer and ultimately had the passenger airbag replaced (in July). A week later the airbag light came on again (I have picture on phone). I took the vehicle back to the dealership and the dealer (of course light was off by then). Dealer claimed no fault code was on computer and could not find issue (although I did show them iphone pic). Light did stay off in Aug/Sept but within the past week the light has begun illuminating, staying on for a while, turning off for a while, and coming back on. The vehicle is garage kept at night but the temp has gotten cooler within the last couple weeks. Not sure what to do except set the seat back a little more and cringe a bit. I wonder how loud an airbag deployment is? vehicle has approx. 31,700 miles.

Around February 2011, my airbag light started illuminating randomly for no apparent reason. It would come on, I would hear the chime, and then it would turn back off. Eventually it began staying lit longer and longer until finally it stays on all at times. I can't recall if any certain speeds made any difference but it seemed like if I was to hit a bumpy part in the road or similar then I would either see the light come on or if it was already on, it would go off. Now it never turns off. I haven't been to the dealer because I know the run around ill be given just as everyone else I've read about. I have researched how airbag systems operate and have slowly began my own process of determining what is the cause. Only problem, every thing I read states that I should not play around with the airbag system and offers no info related to testing procedures. I work on cars and electronics often, so if I just had the correct information to feel safe, then I would surely try finding the problem myself. With this said, I shouldn't have to do this and I shouldn't have to wonder all the time, when is my airbag going to explode in my face. I'll remove the entire airbag system from the vehicle myself if Chrysler doesn't react quickly. I replaced 2 window regulators. Both in the back doors. Such a common occurrence that they have created a repair kit so you don't have to purchase the window motor again. Still the point is, you see these problems, stand up and do the right thing. We (consumers) are the reason you are able to make vehicles. Also I don't know if this helps but I have replaced 2 batteries since 2008. I was starting to believe the drop in battery voltage may trigger the airbag light but that wasn't it. What is draining these batteries" alternator is charging around 14.5 volts. I can disc. Battery, reconnect and radio stations are still saved. How"

This vehicle has had electrical issues since I first bought it used 5 years ago. Last week I was driving my son and two of his friends home from the beach. I was on the interstate when suddenly the air bag light came on, stayed on for a minute or so, went out, then blinked a few times. I got a creepy feeling and decided to do a search. I am glad I did. I can't believe Chrysler has not recalled these Jeep, I think they are going to be paying a lot more in pi claims than it would cost to do the right thing and fix the problem. I am afraid to use my car!!! I called hall Jeep here in Virginia beach and was told to bring it in so they could do an electrical check on the vehicle. [xxx], the girl I spoke with in the service department told me to drive it up there. I told her I was afraid to after reading about the injuries that have been incurred when the driver and sometimes passenger side air bags deploy for no reason. I am 5'2" tall and must sit close to the steering wheel, increasing the chance of injury or even death. She told me that even I said that the risk of it happening was small, when I asked her how I said that her response was "you said there have only been 87 incidents and there are thousands of them on the road" !!!!! I told her it should only take one for them to be alarmed. She then suggested I have it towed - at my expense of course. This is just unsatisfactory and I will never buy another Chrysler product! my husband has been looking at the Dodge Ram truck but now I am reading about some life threatening issues with them, too! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Driving late afternoon approx 35 mph. Running with max ac on, radio on, lights off and vehicle in 4X2 mode. Airbag light illuminated. Stopped at stop sign and light turned off. Illuminated again after continuing to drive. Light stayed on all the way home (approx additional 5 miles). Light did not illuminate this morning. I've just taken to dealership for review after reading the recent issues of airbag deployment after air bag light illumination with no impact (yikes). Vehicle has approx 30,000 miles on it. I will revise or re-input if dealer doesn't find issue or it deploys with no warning.

I was stopped at a red light during rush hour at ~4:20pm waiting to get on the freeway (san felipe and feeder road of 610 / houston, tx). My A/C was running but the radio was off. I heard the warning chime from the dash board and noticed my airbag warning light had come on. Roughly 5 seconds later while still stopped at the red light, both the driver and passenger side airbags spontaneously deployed. After the shock, I noticed my hazard lights automatically had come on and I think the engine had shut off. I put the car in park and exited the vehicle. Since my hands were on steering wheel during deployment they received the most direct blunt force trauma along with chemical burns (I later went to emergency room that evening). The car was towed to the nearest Chrysler dealership. Luckily I was not on the freeway traveling 70mph when it happened.

Air bag light come on while driving then goes off then comes on again at random. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.. nothing for about a month then back on all over again then off, ,,, while driving on highway. Has begun to do it more often... I am afraid the airbag will deploy for no reason while driving and cause me to be involved in an accident.

I was injured from unexpected airbag deployment Jeep Liberty 2003. Happened to me yesterday, April 16, 2012. Thank god I was driving slowly away from my driveway. I heard a beep, look at the dashboard and saw the airbag light on. My reaction was to put my foot on the break, to lean back and my instinct made me to lift my left arm to cover my face. Boom!!! - loud explosion, pain in my arm and covered with a cloud of powder/dust. It took me a couple of seconds to realize what happened. The drivers airbag exploded without any reason at all. Seatbelt locked. I turned back to see if my 8 year old son was ok. Disoriented, confused, eyes wide open, but ok. Just thinking the tragedy it could have been 1 minute later on the highway, definitely a bad accident and many lives compromised. Added 1 injured per consumer interview.pco
