CarComplaints.com Notes: Well, that didn't work. After one unsuccessful year of Borrego sales in the USA Kia ditched the SUV and replaced it two years later with the 2nd-generation 2011 Sorrento.

Recently purchased used 2009 Kia Borrego, paid a LOT extra for extended warranty, serviced every 5000km, 6 months later everything started failing. Told I need a stop lamp switch (recall) and a new electronic control module (>$2600), not covered by Kia or warranty. Part is on back order which leaves me without a vehicle for total of two months! I live in remote area, nothing is nearby and without a vehicle I am screwed, can't go to work, store, post office, anything. I drive for a hour through forest just to get to work each day, and another 1hr after work, if something goes wrong I am on my own. Renting a replacement while I wait for it to get fixed is costing me $3000 a month. All of this will cost me $8000 - $10000 to get it running again, and I have a terminally ill hubby so I literally have no money. I am absolutely FURIOUS.

Problem started while idling, all dash warning lights came on and then the transmission locked, could not put in park or remove key. After ~5hrs was able to put in park but check engine light was still on. Took to local mech. and they cleared computer errors and gave back to me. Same thing happened as soon as I left. Waited a few hours, then on drive home felt like engine was skipping. When pushing gas pedal it would struggle to respond and then after 25km traveled, tried to slow down and all dash lights came on again and engine started stalling out at 90km/hr. Had to come to a rolling stop and apply handbrake, could have crashed if there were other vehicles around me! After this tranny & ignition was again locked.

Was able to put in park next day but engine light still on. Left it in garage for 2.5 weeks waiting on appointment with Kia. Getting ready to tow it and same issue occurred almost immediately. Put in neutral and towed it through a huge snowstorm for 500km to nearest dealer. When I got there battery was dead, jump-started it and it was again idling rough and locking up almost immediately. I can’t survive without a vehicle, I can't afford to buy another vehicle, I can't afford the repairs on this one, and I still owe >$19000 on this one. Who is going to re-reimburse me for this?!!! WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL??!!
