CarComplaints.com Notes: Well, that didn't work. After one unsuccessful year of Borrego sales in the USA Kia ditched the SUV and replaced it two years later with the 2nd-generation 2011 Sorrento.
For months my Kia Borrego hasn't been wanting to shift. My rpms are way too high when I'm going 45-50 mph. It won't shift at all when I try to use the manual shift. It happened out of nowhere. There weren't any warning signs or anything. One day it ran great and the next day it wasn't shifting properly.
Took truck to dealership they could not figure out the problem... The second time I took to dealership in July, the car would only go about 20 mph on the freeway. They ended up replacing my transmission. It started again. My transmission is four months old... And the gears are jerking really bad. I was told yesterday that its because it's a new transmission and that it need to be worked in. They cleaned around the wiring and everything seems to be driving fine as of today.
We bought this Borrego in March 2011. We live in a very rural area with LOTS of hills. I go up and down at least 3 fairly steep, long hills twice every day to work. My Borrego will not go into the next gear. It winds up like it wants to, but I have to do it manually. The local dealer "reflashed" it, but it's getting worse. It is still well within the terms of the tranny warranty. We took it in again (1 hour each way) and Kia is saying with the Borrego "it's the nature of the beast" and they feel there's nothing wrong with it. This is unacceptable. I've only had the car 1 1/2 years and it's only 3 years old. The problem is getting worse and Kia will NOT make good on their warranty and fix it because they don't make the Borrego anymore and don't want to put money into my car. They say all the Borrego's act this way. It's sucking through gas LIKE CRAZY!!! We are trading it in on a 4 cyl. 2012 Sorento. I love my Kias (this will be my 3rd) but this really SUCKS. My 2006 Sorento was awesome and we only traded it in because it wasn't big enough to tow our boat. Goodbye, Borrego!!!!! It was nice while it lasted!
