I took my car in to the dealer to have the summer tires put on the vehicle. I was told there was a recall on the engine to install a knock sensor. This was done, and I picked it up, but was told that the engine should be replaced, and might be done under recall. I was under the impression that the vehicle was working properly before I took it in, but I guess not.

It turns out that the tires were not installed and the engine NOT replaced under warranty, or recall. It only has 88,500 km on it, or about 54,991 miles; just nicely broken in! Further, I was told that the engine would cost $6245.00 Ca to replace, which includes labor.

When I phoned Kia Customer service, I asked for some assistance in the cost of replacing the engine. I was rudely told "No!" but I am not letting up on this as they knew it was a problem in some of their other engines. I believe that automobiles manufactured today must be of acceptable quality and last for a certain mileage, regardless of the manufacturer's warranty.

Considering the low mileage, and the fact that possibility that the engine could explode or cause a fire, causing a danger to human health and safety, the engine should be replaced on manufacturer's warranty at no cost to the owner. Kia has acknowledged this problem on some of their other model engines, and replaced the engine on recall.

Update from Mar 30, 2022: Five days later, I got a phone call from the dealer saying that Kia Motors will cover the engine replacement as part of their goodwill policy. Yay!
