The vehicle had a strange smell ever since we got it a few years back. Earlier in the month, the headlight and dashlight would flicker with the turn signal. We looked it up and set up an apppointment with a local Kia dealership for recall on this issue. Then this week, the engine suddenly quit while the car was parked. The vehicle wouldn't start at all. Kia was notified and they said that there was another recall on engine SC200 on this vehicle that was just announced earlier this year. Online lookup also revealed that the smell issue can be from burning oil or a leak into catalytic converter. Other Kia cars from the same years have also said to have had these issues. Then an OBD II check showed the codes 7E8 and 7E9 which has been noted online by other customers as engine problem recall for which Kia has replaced their engine free of charge.

While driving on the highway in cruise control, the engine suddenly went into a lower gear and lost acceleration. Since then, the car has had difficulty accelerating and struggles to get up to speeds over 60mph. I had the car checked out and was told it was a clogged catalytic converter and that it needed to be replaced. Prior to the highway incident, the oil light would come on frequently and oil would have to be added every two to three weeks. The dealer has inspected the car for the engine recall and found no issues even though the car was experiencing oil loss when it was taken to the dealer. The car has 110,000 miles.

While I was driving on the highway, I heard a loud banging coming from the front of my car. I took it to a repair shop and was told it needed a valve replacement but it was only a matter of time before I would need to replace the engine. I did have the valve job done at great expense to me. However the engine light came on and despite having each of the problems fixed generated by the codes that came up, the engine light never went off. Now I understand there is an engine recall and the problems described are exactly what is wrong with my car e.g. engine light is on, check oil light flickering on, gasoline/fuel odor. I also had the catalytic converter replaced at my expense, only to find out there was a recall on that too. I need to have my engine replaced. This is a safety issue. Kia needs to make good on its promise.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) and a manufacturer's product improvement campaign software update however, the failure occurred. The contact stated that on three separate occasions while driving at 60 mph, there was a rattling sound heard then the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The instrument panel light and front driver-€™s and passenger-€™s side headlights flickered on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that there was a rod bearing knocking code that appeared on the code reader however, there were no oil leaks found. An oil consumption test was performed which found that the vehicle consumed a quart of oil for every thousand miles. An engine test was also performed, which the vehicle passed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no warranty coverage and advised the contact to drive the vehicle until the engine seized. The failure mileage was 93,000.

I was traveling back home from Dandridge, TN in July 2019. As I was going down the interstate at 70MPH, the engine made a very loud noise and the vehicle began to shake. I promptly pulled over to the shoulder and shut off the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to Rusty Wallace Kia of Knoxville. They had the car for three months before I received a phone call in September 2019. I was on my way to Florida with a friend, and Rusty Wallace Kia informed me that the engine had -€œthrew a rod-€ and cut the oil lines. The recall is related to this exact issue. Rusty Wallace Kia then replaced the engine without my written permission. They called to inform me of this about a month later. I did receive mail from Kia Consumer Affairs alerting me of the recall a few months later. I have since contacted Consumer Affairs and they let me know they would be contacting Rusty Wallace Kia of Knoxville to discuss getting the repair payed for so I can get my car back. I received an email just today (several months later) from the service manager, Allison Richard-€™s, saying that I am responsible for the cost of the repairs. The recall paperwork in the mail states the engine will be replaced and the KDS software updated. As of today, Rusty Wallace Kia of Knoxville is refusing to release my car back to me (which is paid in full and I have the title in hand), and Allison also stated that consumer affairs said they wouldn-€™t help. I am needing my car back as soon as possible, and any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My car caught fire upon a drive home. Had to call fire department and extinguished it myself before fire department arrival. Took vehicle to local Kia dealership to have them check car. Documentation of charting from fire. They told me it-€™s because I needed new snow tires. I purchased new tires. Months later my engine started knocking and vehicle is not drivable. I have filed a national claim with Kia due to safety recall on 4/21/21. I have sent pictures and report. I leave multiple voicemails. No one is calling me back. Case number 14128806. Case manager is Jesse. Twice I-€™ve been told his supervisor will call me back and no one has. Fire occurred in 2018- engine blew in 2021

We have concerns how Gerald KIA of Naperville handled the recall: NHTSA Recall Number: 20V750 (1/25/21)/Product Improvement Campaign (10/20/20) and at this point are very concerned about the safety of driving our car at all. We brought our car in on 2/24/21 for this important safety recall/product improvement campaign. They performed the PI2002B ECU Update (sc200b logic update), inspected the engine for sc200ps bct and fuel line and oil pan inspection which all passed. We expressed the check engine light was coming on when on the highway, the proposed fix was replacing Purge valve, spark plugs and air filter. I replaced the air filter and purge valve myself and had my local mechanic replaced the spark plugs and one coil on 4/10/21. Also note that the car has been consuming too much oil for the past year and started to get worse during this time - sometimes losing more than a quart a week and we just monitor the oil level and add when it is getting low and were hopeful that these repairs would help the oil consumption problem as well as the check engine light coming on. After these fixes the car started having severe acceleration/loss of power issues while driving on the highway when reaching 65 mph and the check engine light would flash. And then one time the check engine light started flashing and stayed on and I brought it to my local mechanic to diagnose. He cleaned our fuel system to see if it improves our performance and while doing so confirmed that our car has a clogged catalytic converter and recommended that we bring the car back to the dealership for an oil consumption test to inquire further into our car issues and that the high oil consumption may have led to the clogged cat. Before I brought the car back to the dealership I re-read the recall/safety campaign letters and realized that it appears what was happening was after the software update which updated the knock sensor detection system - the blinking check engine light was blinking and the

Engine has a severe knock and is consuming large quantities of oil, oil light would flash even with oil at the max mark. It is available for inspection. When dealer looked at the car they flashed the knock sensor, and returned vehicle, drove 2 miles went into limp mode in traffic, would not go above 5mph. Engine light flashed. Dealer replaced knock sensor and returned vehicle. Again, approximately 2 miles the vehicle went into limp mode again in traffic. Upon 3rd time going to the dealer they determined Engine needed replaced and refused to warrentie under recall. Vehicle has 156k miles recall expires at 150k.

Recall SC200 engine compartment fire safety hazard. While driving after I got off the interstate and got off on my exit, I heard a knocking noise in engine, then oil light and engine light came on, I get my oil changed on the regular, smelled really hot had to turn off the car it scared me because it also started to deaccelerate would not go over like 30 40 mph. The noise was terrible I was so scared the engine was going to explode I had to have it towed. Now after the Kia consumer told me multiple times they approved the engine replacement the dealership had some issue due to an ECU ksds update that I was not notified of and it was never preformed. So she apologized by telling me the information that was previously provided mutiple times was incorrect and I would need to pay out of pocket. I read over the SC200 engine inspection test recall letter. It actually states they will preform the ksds ECU software update in addition to this recall. Not the other way around. Sent another escalation because this is not fault of my own the car is broke down and also not my fault they gave me the wrong information (so they say.) regardless they should replace it because they already told me it was approved to be fixed and for a rental. I have still not gotten any thing. I am completely

On April 13, 2021 Kia completed the recall for catalytic converter and and computer system recall/update. On April 13, 2021 I was traveling out of town when there was a rotten smell coming from the car. Then under the driver's seat started to feel warm, like it was heating up. The car then violently jerked and the RPM dropped suddenly and the car started shaking and sputtering and smoking from the exhaust, the check engine light began flashing as well. I got off on highway 151 in metter Georgia and pulled over to a local gas station. I turned the car off and tried to call for help but didn't have a phone signal in the area. I had the car looked at by a local mechanic and was told that the catalytic converter failed causing the engine coil 3 to misfire because more than likely the part was faulty. The spark plugs were wet because the oil and fuel mix from what was described to me as blowback from the catalytic converter clogging the engine. The car doesn't go past 2000 rpms and it has little to no acceleration. Once Kia got the car they're saying it could take almost 30 days to diagnose the car on their end. They're also saying that they possibly won't cover the engine work because the recall only covers the catalytic converter. I dispute that because the catalytic converter is the cause of the engine damage.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V750000 (engine). The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to pride Kia (793 lynnway, lynn, MA 01905) for the recall repair and the dealer inspected the engine compartment and found there was an oil leak in the oil pan. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be driven for 1,000 miles before the next oil change to do the oil consumption test. After the vehicle was driven for 900 miles, the failure occurred while the contact was driving 55 mph. The vehicle drove rough and while idling prior to stalling. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and an oil consumption test was performed. The contact was informed that the vehicle consumed 1 quarts of oil. The dealer informed the contact that the oil change service history receipts were needed. The contact provided 2 years of oil change history receipts, which the dealer deemed was insufficient documentation. The dealer informed the contact that he needed to pay for the engine to be disassembled, and there was no guarantee that the recall would cover the cost of the repair. The dealer offered to cover half the cost of replacing the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that his engine consumed excessive amounts of oil without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that he would add at least 16 oz of oil into the engine every 500 miles. The contact had taken the vehicle to Kia of old saybrook (275 middlesex ave, old saybrook, ct 06475) where he initially believed that the oil failure was due to NHTSA campaign number: 20V750000 (engine) however, the dealer informed him that the excessive oil consumption was not related to the recall. The dealer also informed him that they would perform an oil consumption test which confirmed that the engine was consuming excessive amounts of oil however, since the vehicle was not under recall, the dealer offered no further assistance. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed him that the VIN was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
