cruise control unexpectantly disengages itself

I was driving down the highway at about 80 mph and the cruise control automatically disengaged itself... The speed dropped from 80 mph to 60 to 65 mph. I didn't have any control of the gas pedal I was able to make it to a convenience store. I turned the car off and waited 15 to 20 minutes. Once I started the car again it was fine for about 120 miles of the trip before it happened again. Every time it happens I am not close to a dealership to have it checked out. To get some power I turned off the overdrive. This has happened more 10 times. When it happens I was told the car goes into "fail safe" mode. This has to deal with the transmission. There is no power and the car does not shift into the next gear. I did file a report with the NHTSA on June 1,2016. The complaint number is 10871813. If you have any solution at to what I can do to prevent this from happening pleas advise. There is no type of recall for this problem.

Update from Jun 6, 2016: This an update to the issue I'm having with our 2013 Nissan Rogue. The mileage now is 53,659 up from 53,530. The most recent incident occurred on June 2, 2016... We drove to San Angelo, TX which is at the most 40 miles away. The fastest I drove was 80 mph. By the time we arrived the vehicle had gone into "fail safe" mode. Usually we've driven 150 miles before it went into "fail safe" mode. The dealership wants to charge $115.00 to run the diagnostics on the Rogue. Once I turn the vehicle the vehicle off it resets itself and the problem doesn't exist until it goes into "fail safe" mode. I have checked the transmission fluid level which is correct. My wife reminded me the problem began in the summer of 2015. I did call Nissan USA and they gave me a reference # to take with me to the dealership.....I have also called NHTSA who gave me a complaint # as well. I have done some research online and discovered there are complaints for this particular issue on the site " car complaints.com ". These can be looked at under NHTSA: Vehicle Speed Control Problems, NHTSA: Engine Problems and NHTSA: Powertrain Problems. Under these sections there are over 40 complaints listed.
