Even though we're under warranty - as its under 30K miles, and Nissan claims its due to sludge - they also claim this car's title was "branded" which means the car went through a catastrophic accident or whatever that resulted in damage exceeding 75% of the car's value. Aside from having checked this car's history on two different services, (both of which came up clean), we got it from the person we've been getting all our cars from (new and used) for decades. He's a family friend whose recommendations have seen our family (we're 5 boys) through my mom's minivans, and SUV's my dad's cars and SUVs and whatever cars my brothers and I got. He has his own full service garage/bodyshop and aside from us using him we've also recommended him to friends and family - all of whom are still with him.

When Nissan claimed we were misled and the car was "branded", he invited us to run any checks we wanted. A day later we owned these services $50 and this guy an apology. At that point he showed us how this wasn't the first time a manufacturer tried to shift the blame by claiming the car was "branded" so they wouldn't have to pay up. When we asked him why he didn't tell us that originally he said "I knew you'd take my word for it, but you're only human and odds are you'd probably have a little doubt - and like this you got it from 2 independent 3rd parties".

Then we found out that Nissan had class actions lawsuits pending both engine and CVT (transmission) related. The formation of sludge as well as the car dying shortly after the check oil light comes up(both of which we experienced) were listed in both suits. Nissan just took two major hits with these class actions, perhaps they're afraid of this leading to a 3rd. I don't know, nor do I care. What I DO know is they're expecting me to trust them over someone my family has trusted for decades, someone who never let us down or never passed the buck --even when others would have. He values our loyalty and we value his knowledge and professionalism... I don't know what Nissan values, but judging from the way they've been handing us, it clearly ISN'T customer satisfaction... but to outright LIE and claim this car was "branded" and hence not under warranty (despite being under 30K miles) is really disturbing...

I understand they're dealing with seriously bad optics, and a decrease in sales of almost 20% between 2020 and 2021... but these kind of BS tactics really doesn't befit them - especially over $7k, which to my family is a lot but to a major multinational like Nissan isn't even what they spend on a week's supply of toilet paper. Or maybe times have changed and instead of looking to keep customers by keeping them happy, they feel it'll be easier to replace them.

This is the first time I have ever leased the Nissan Rogue. I have been leasing the Murano for the last 15 years and have NEVER had a problem like this. If I had been on the highway, I could have been killed. I had my oil changed at a Nissan dealer (as per warranty), so I do not understand why this happened. I also had to take it in because of a recall pertaining to the mounts. This is unacceptable and I am calling Nissan out on this one.
