My brake lights are staying on even when the brake isn't being pressed. This is also linked to my cruise control issue of turning off while engaged automatically and then not turning back on.

This vehicle has many problems starting with the seat belt in the rear of the vehicle is malfunctioning, brake lights are on all the time, water pump went out in 2012, the transmission shifter sticks in park, the car has shut down on the street while driving and the service traction control message appears, the two rear passenger automatic door locks do not function properly, the trunk button is inoperable. I am fed up with all of the electronic issues and have tried to have them resolved at the dealership paid to have them fixed and it has returned. The roof of the car is showing rust and the steering column was clunking which was fixed underwarranty.

Cruise control disengages and brake lights illuminate without pressing brake pedal and turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. I have researched and found reports of the same problems on the Saturn aura and Chevy Malibu of the same year, and the Pontiac G6 of 2005.

Starting in 09 when I purchased this car I've had problems and still to the current date (2/26/2013) I've had to replace the tie rods multiple times which result in new brakes and tires, which aren't cheap for this car! I recently went in today to get my cat converter replaced because the sensor was melting oh and again they tell me I need new brakes(shocker)-this is a safety issue none the less. I've spent about 7 grand in repairs all for the car to just be "ok" to drive for the time being. I'm not sure why this car was never recalled because it's a piece of junk! I have saved all the receipts from the dealership and it's astronomical how many times I've had to bring it in, let's just say the "guys at the shop" all know me by name..

I would like to inform NHTSA that my 2008 Pontiac G6 had/has issues with the brake lights. The lights are illuminated while accelerating and turn off while braking. The issue was first brought to my attention when my brother was following me and asked why I was riding my brakes. He explained what he saw, and we figured out my brake lights were backward. The issue continued, with seemingly no pattern. At times they illuminated correctly and at others, not. I tested the lights often and speed also did not seem to be a factor. I took my car to a repair shop where I was charged $162.90 for a new brake switch that was not needed. Upon finding the issue still in existence, I contacted the shop to request a refund, which I was ultimately denied. The repair shop stated they had never heard of such an issue with brake lights, even though they witnessed it themselves while my car was there for multiple days. Upon finding no one who seemed to have an idea how to fix the issue, I found a video on youtube of a demonstration to fix the issue, www.youtube.com/watch"V=N7ra7mc_tlo. I took my car to a friend who followed the steps in the video. My brakes seem to be working ok at this point, but as the man in the video points out, the fix may only last for 8 or so months. Please note that since ?fixing? my brake lights, I have seen two G6"S on the road with this brake light issue, of which the drivers may or may have not known. My daily commute often involves traffic backups, and I do not want to be behind a vehicle with this issue, nor would I want anyone behind me unable to recognize that I am braking. I look forward to following NHTSA regarding the brake light issue, and hope to get a recall notice.

Brake lights engage and cruise control disengages at varying times. Brake lights engages when accelerating. Upon minor depression of the brake pedal, brake lights shut off, then re-engage as the pedal is depressed further. Brake lights engage at both high and low speeds, as well as when the vehicle is parked and running.

I noticed the cruise control going off on its own agenda. I was told by another driver that the brake lights were coming on while traveling down the highway. Had a dealer look into the problem and the switch was replaced. Still does it with 56K miles on it. I am a mechanic and what a bad design. GM needs to step up a get the switch redesigned before somebody gets seriously hurt.

Brake lights illuminated when brakes not applied, turned off when brakes were applied (according to family member who was driving behind me). Problem seemed to resolve itself, but has recurred several times over the past year. Subsequent occurrences have been slightly different - brake lights illuminate when brakes not applied, then turn off briefly and come back on when brake pedal is depressed. When brake pedal is released, brake lights turn off for ~5-10 seconds before coming back on. Occurred again this morning - attempted to resolve by disconnecting negative battery terminal and reconnecting after ~15 minutes to see if the system would reset itself, but it did not. Incidents seem random - have not been able to identify a common thread (such as hard braking, vehicle maintenance activities, weather, other lighting issues, etc).

The brakelights stay on constantly, while I'm driving, in park, etc. I've talked with a mechanic who told me it may be a sensor and may cost several hundred to get fixed. The only time it goes off is when I have a full tank of gas!!! what's going on"?" I'm tired of being asked if I'm riding my brakes!!!

The contact owns a 2008 Pontiac G6. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when he applied the brakes and the vehicle began to vibrate. Recently, the brake light would illuminate unintendedly and the vehicle had not been diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
