I own a 2016 ecodiesel Ram 1500, and ever since I completed the required software update on my vehicle due to the class action lawsuit I have noticed a drastic decrease in the amount of acceleration my vehicle has under conditions where the vehicle is not fully warmed up and occasionally under normal driving conditions as well. There are times the vehicle will take 3 to 5 entire seconds to finally start accelerating and when trying to merge into heavy traffic or at intersections this is extremely dangerous! I need to be able to trust the my vehicle will respond in the manner I need it to while traveling highway and local. I become a hazard to other drives as well as to myself and my occupants. The ecodiesel owners community was promised that this software update would not impede fuel economy, engine performance, engine noise, and many other things, yet myself and what appears to be many others are suffering from what can only be classified as a ticking time bomb. When one or multiple lives are lost, will it then be a large enough issue to correct? I cant fear every single intersection and curved road I come across because I am afraid that my engine will respond sluggish and delayed. This is an issue that fca needs to address and quickly!
I own a 2016 ecodiesel Ram 1500, and ever since I completed the required engine software update mandated by fca due to the class action lawsuit, I have noticed a significant delay in acceleration during conditions where the engine is not fully warmed up and sometime at normal conditions when the vehicle is pulling from a stop through an intersection. These delays can be as long as 3 to 5 seconds!! this posses a huge risk to the drive, his occupants, and other drivers as well. The eco diesel community was promised that this software update would not impede fuel economy, engine performance, engine noise, and many other things as well. Yet here we are my self and many others having to think twice every time we pull through an intersection, or a drive way, or turn on a curved road where the oncoming traffic is impossible to see, hoping that this is not the time we are impaled by on coming traffic due to the lack of engine performance of our own vehicle. This is an issue fca needs to get out in front of before human life is lost. Its not a matter of if but a matter of when, this issue needs to be addressed and its needs to be done quickly!!
After recall for the diesel engine emissions class action lawsuit, the truck is very sluggish when cold, sometimes takings 3-5 seconds to respond to throttle input. Fuel economy reduced. Truck feels lazy until it warms up completely. Even then, it isn't as responsive as it was before the software flash.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. While the vehicle was undergoing routine inspection, it was discovered that the coolant was very low. The vehicle was taken to tate Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (2903, 7429 ritchie hwy, glen burnie, md 21061) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed more coolant. The vehicle was repaired; however, after 1,000 miles, the vehicle lost coolant. The vehicle was taken back to tate Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram where the mechanic found a leak in the egr cooler and stated that the egr circuit needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, after several thousand miles, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to fred frederick Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (39 Washington blvd, laurel, md 20707) where they performed a pressure test and added coolant. The mechanic also mentioned a warranty on the diesel emission. After the repair, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

Vehicle was in a settlement regarding the ecodiesel engine. To get claim processed a software change was required. After getting the software change at the dealership, the truck now has an extreme acceleration delay especially right after starting. You can press on the gas pedal and nothing really happens, then you have to floor it to get it to move. It is very dangerous at the intersection coming out of my neighborhood. On this past Wednesday morning I had to run off the road in order to avoid an accident as my truck rolled onto the highway and then would not get going. I tried to pull over and then it finally hit and put me in a ditch as I was getting out of the way of a car about to hit me. The people I've talked to at the settlement Agency for Fiat Chrysler have acknowledged to me that many have complained. If it isn't fixed someone is going to be seriously injured (if they haven't already been)
Ram with ecodiesel engine after approved emissions modification due to epa settlement. When engine is not fully warmed up there is excessive (3-5 seconds) delay in throttle response. This is an extremely dangerous condittion at any intersection. When applying throttle to enter an intersection after stopping, the vehicle slowly moves forward into the intersection with no throttle response for 3-5 seconds creating a collision hazard to occupants as well as other vehicles
After having the VO8 aem done to my truck, the performance has dropped. The lack of acceleration when pulling out into traffic is scary at times. If you even so much as roll a stop the truck seems to be stuck in 3rd gear and very slow to accelerate. Fuel consumption is greater causing a drop in mpg both with normal driving and gets worse than before the update while towing.
I own a 2016 Ram 1500 eco diesel. I recently got a recall (V08 I believe) that greatly effected the throttle response and fuel mileage on my truck. I love on a bend on a state highway and it has become very dangerous for me to pull out of my driveway. When I press the throttle there is a good 5 second delay before the truck accelerates. This is a known problem as fca has notified dealers that they are aware of the issue. I know this because I took my truck back to the dealer to address these issues and that is the response they gave me. When I purchased this truck there were no acceleration issues and the fuel mileage was 4-5mpg greater before this computer update. Please facilitate a fix for this before I get hit leaving my house or turning onto any street.
V08 recall flash has made my truck more dangerous to drive. There is an extreme amount of lag from the engine and turbo while trying to accelerate. I am the second owner, bought on 7/24/19 and the truck has been in the shop twice already!
Since getting the Ram eco diesel mandatory recall / re flash. I have experienced a "dead pedal." It's not as bad in warmer weather but now we are starting to experience colder mornings and winter is right around the corner. The drive-ability of the vehicle is unsafe and unsettling. I am worried about my family now.
Exhaust manifold bolts broken. My truck has roughly 46,000 miles on it and yesterday upon cold start up I heard an exhaust leak coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Upon further inspection I noticed at least one exhaust manifold bolt head broken off, there may be more as I didn't investigate any further. This should not be happening on a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles
Eco diesel recall on emissions, and now have safety acceleration or "lack of" from a stop, fuel economy went way down and use of alot def, Ram is aware of it and have not fix check engine light has been on for past 4 months dealers reset and still comes back on, dealers can't fix and don't know how they stated wait for Dodge fca I was dealing with felicia us customer care case number [xxx] fca she had to cancel case instructed by her bosses because their is no fix. Consumer stated failed software was installed which made it unsafe to drive. All Ram are having lefter problems. When you start the truck, it sounds like it's ticking until it finally stops. The sound is when the truck is stationary and moving.
Truck performance following fca V08 emissions recall dramatically affected. Truck poses extreme risk to operators and surrounding motorists during cold & warmup cycles. Substantial power loss during this time making merging into traffic/accelerating at a normal pace dangerous until truck reaches full operating temperature. Lead time required to merge is is extreme when engine temperature cold. Exponentially affected when trailering during this period as well. Truck feels like taking off from a stop in 5th gear.
First time parked with vehicle turned off and went in post office got back in truck. Ignition would not turn on made a funny sound and low oil pressure came up then light came on, waited 10 minutes and started up fine. Around 2 weeks later did it while driving, had cruise set at 75, in the left lane passing 2 vehicles and engine shut off it flashed low oil pressure, I coasted to right hand side of the highway made calls and waited 15 minutes and it restarted. Scheduled and made appointment with Ram dealership, after checking computer and changing oil and filter found nothing. Dealership said should have left error on computer. Picture was taken of proof of oil light after being shut down on the highway.took to dealership on 9/3/2019 with 40,727 miles on Ram 1500 eco-diesel truck dates are 8/20 and 8/25/2019 when this occurred.
The exhaust manifold bolts break off the head of the bolt on the rear cylinder on each side causing an exhaust leak between the engine and the manifold on the 5.7L hemi. The dealership said its a known issue with those motors but there is no recall.
Driving home from work 22 August 2019, an 8 mile drive. I went to accelerate to reach posted speed limit after turning off of a side street onto main road. I had no forward momentum when I depressed the accelerator pedal. I attempted several times to manually shift gears thinking it was a transmission issue. The engine would rev up to RPM but still barely any forward momentum. I was losing speed quickly. Something grabbed my attention, not sure if I heard something out of the ordinary but I happened to look out my review and side mirrors and notice a huge plume of smoke exiting my vehicle. At about that same moment, I noticed a low oil pressure light from the instrument cluster. I immediately pulled into a driveway and shut the vehicle off. Once the vehicle was off, I still noticed a large amount of white smoke billowing from under the hood and front wheel wells. At first I thought it to be a coolant hose rupture due to the color of the smoke/steam. I immediately jumped out and opened the hood thinking it was a coolant issue. Right away I noticed a flame at the rear of the engine. I had no access to water where I was located and my only option was to blow it out. It worked for me but probably only because I had got to the fire before it was able to spread too quick. Fire/rescue was dispatched, removed engine cover and noticed smoldering plastic/wire harness and doused with 4-5 cups of water until all traces of fire were gone. Tow truck delivered vehicle to dealership approx 10 miles from where vehicle was disabled.
This vehicle is a death trap, I purchased it certified used from a Ram dealer with 30K on it. It runs and drives fine but when it is cold and out of the blue it has complete dead pedal. The truck will not accelerate, it has almost no throttle response and it not safe to drive until its warm I have almost been hit several times, even a slow under powered moped would scoot faster than this truck when its not up to operating temp. This has all taken place after the emissions update done to the truck before predelivery. I had no idea it was going to drive like this I have banned family and friends from driving it. The dealership says it drives as it should "post update" the lack of pedal response is going to get someone killed. There are no engine codes, dealer says its fine and has an perfect maintenance history. Today it was a bit cooler outside than it has been in recent months, knowing the trucks characteristics I used remote start to warm it up. It ran for about 5 minutes before I left, I drove down about a 1000ft private road to a 4 lane divided highway that I pull out onto several times a day and have been for two decades. No cars were coming except a white Mazda about two firelanes away from me so more than enough room, I could have walked across the road. I pressed the pedal and thh truck fell on its face and topped out at 10 mph until I made it to the center median to complete my left turn. The vehicle has to move into the right lane to avoid hitting me, they were being abundantly cautious but this is not how a vehicle should respond to throttle input during warm up or not. It is a diesel and I have been driving them my whole life, I know their cold behavior and this vehicle is broken. Fca says its normal.
