This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The vehicle has always had an issue with turn signal canceling the left hand turn probably fails 30/40% of the time. There was a recall on this but requires a diagnostic to be performed. This has been completed twice and didn-??t fail, but service writer and tech both witnessed it not working during driving test. Problem is StarParts won-??t send parts to dealer because it passes their diagnostic. After complaints to dealer now StarParts wants to run test a third time the dealer and I agree the outcome will be the same. I sent email to StarParts regional manager (Benton Kuchefskil) twice and he refuses to respond. Basically the issue is they confirm it does not function properly but they won-??t repair it because it passes their diagnostics. I have been trying to get this repaired since December
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, followed immediately by the battery warning light. The contact stated that the instrument panel illuminated and the message "Low Voltage 11.3V" was displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was instructed to return home and immediately call the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the issue, and a local dealer was notified. The contact was informed to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was later informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and suggested a reimbursement for a rental vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,818.
When stopped at a red light, vehicle shut off and emergency parking brake engaged. Safety was not necessarily put at risk but other cars had to pass me as I tried to figure out the issue. Dealer cannot reproduce the issue as it's happened only twice in one year. The only warning that came on the instrument cluster was "parking brake engaged".
While coming to a stop, the truck died and immediately set the emergency brakes. I was stopped about 300ft. from stop sign with cars stopped behind me. With the cars behind me honking, I waved them around. Released the brake and restarted the truck. Took the truck to the dealer and they could not reproduce the incident, and it threw no codes. This could be a huge safety concern if it were to happen in traffic.
I was approaching a 4 way stop when the engine lost power and shutoff. The vehicle auto shifted to park before i was able to come to a complete stop and the steering wheel locked up. I was the only passenger, all doors were closed and i was the only vehicle at the intersection. I was able to powerback on and continue on my way, but i have lost all trust in the vehicle and will be taking it in to the dealership tomorrow morning.

On 19 November 2024, immediately after dealer performed an oil change and accomplished recall 24V-653 and 24V729, on drive home vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), but did not auto re-start. Had to power cycle in order to move truck. On 20 November 2024, vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), but this time the SafeHold system engaged the parking brake and shifted the truck into park. The parking brake warning lamp illuminated. Truck would not move until the SafeHold system was manually bypassed. Surrounding traffic became impatient and took unnecessary risks to go around my truck that would not move. Immediately took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repair. On 22 November 2024, picked up truck from dealer with problem not repeatable, no repair performed. On 24 November 2024, exact same problem happened (vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), SafeHold system engaged the parking brake and shifted the truck into park. The parking brake warning lamp illuminated. Truck would not move until the SafeHold system was manually bypassed). Surrounding traffic became impatient and took unnecessary risks to go around my truck that would not move
When I was driving on a very busy road, the emergency/ parking brake immediately turned on while the truck was returning back in motion, which made the car come to a complete stop. I had to manually turn off the parking brake, even though I was not the one to turn it on in the first place. This could have put the people behind me in serious danger, as they could have hit me and then been seriously injured. The problem was brought to the attention of the manufacturer, and they had just asked me if I had turned on the brake with my knee. After being met with an apology, I was asked to bring the truck into the servicer the following morning. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and they only appeared after this had happened.
I was in downtown Atlanta traffic, moving around 10 miles per hour. The truck suddenly shut off and applied the parking brake. Once restarted the battery light was displayed on the dash. This has happened approximately 10-12 times in the last year. I was lucky this one did not result in an accident. Please help in getting Ram to realize there is a problem. Thank you!
Check engine light blinks on and off intermittently, vehicle shakes and feels as if it-??s going to stall. From time to time when going to accelerate I pulled out on a main roads and the vehicle lost all power my kids and I flew forward. While idling at a red light, the vehicle started to shake as if it was going to stall and jerked forward and hit the car in front of me. I brought this to the attention of the dealer. I purchased it from and They stated they cannot find any issues. I have pictures and videos of the check engine light coming on in intermittently. I also called when it lost power, pulling into the intersection. This all should be recorded with Jerry Ulm dealer in Tampa.
Vehicle loses power, then shifts to park and applies the parking brake. This has happened several times in different driving scenarios. Once this happens, the battery fault light appears on the dashboard.
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH on the highway, the "Push to Start" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with fuel pump and fuel pump regulator failure. The fuel pump was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,900.
Four times the truck has powered down while driving - all were when slowing to turn. No prior warning lights or out-of-spec conditions - battery level reading normal prior to shutdown. Truck shut down the engine automatically. Restarting the truck prompted the battery light but no check-engine light. Emergency brake auto-deployed, stopping the car. In all cases I was stopped in traffic (most recently while crossing a highway), but no accidents. Truck is currently at dealership for diagnostics - preliminary code investigation appears related to the auto-start system causing the engine to shut down. Per dealer, they require input from RAM engineering.
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to proceed from a RED traffic light, while driving approximately 4 MPH, the automatic parking brake engaged, and the vehicle stalled. The low voltage warning light was illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the dealer failed to provide a diagnostic result for the failure. The contact stated that almost a year later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 13,000.
Truck stalled suddenly, indicating a flashing message of electrical error of stability assistant. Truck restarted with a yellow engine light on, but would not allow dial to shift into drive. Automatic correct transmission would pull it back into park. Turned engine on and off several times. Once responsive to Drive option, attempted to leave congested traffic area. Moving for 5 minutes now at 35 mph with emergency lights, Truck stalls again. Engine can be restarted but will not hold in Drive. RAM 1500 is new, owned for 4 weeks now.
While driving and slowing for a traffic light, my 2023 Ram 1500 Limited 4X4 began to immediately slow, and I observed the gear selector engage from drive to park, back to drive and back to park, and engaging the emergency brake. The vehicle ceased operating. I was able to engage the emergency flashers and restart the vehicle. All of this occurred while in traffic. This is the second occurrence. The vehicle has approximately 4000 miles. The first time this occurred I took the vehicle to the dealer. They dealer indicated there was no codes found indicating any trouble of this sort. There is a loud humming/tumbling sound when decelerating at lower roms. It is very loud, obnoxious, and distracting. It was so loud that I couldn-??t hear an emergency vehicle coming up behind me to get over. I have found 100-??s of complaints on forums with the same issue with the 5th gen rams. Regional mechanic said it is normal operating for the vehicle, dealership mechanic said this is not normal.
