This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
2017 Ram 2500 Laramie Crew Cab, 4x4, 6.7 Liter Cummings A/T. Receiving a -??Service Electronic Brake System Soon-?? warning light intermittent after start up since at least since June 2025. Code reader advises to replace -??HCU-?? Hydraulic Control Unit, ABS Module. My vehicle was produced 03/2017, however the ram recall is from vehicles produced from April 2017. Seems they are excluding other production vehicles for the recall replacement of the improved ABS HCU Module.
I have been waiting for these recall parts for nearly a year or better. I'm not able to safely drive my vehicle or inspect it. It has been far too long and my vehicle sits in the garage with 49,000 miles on it. I can't move it, drive it, sell it, use it. I think chrysler should be made more responsible for the losses of many many people and this part for their vehicle. I contacted the AG's office and they recommended I file a complaint with you folks. Please, please help!
ABS Module and or HCU finally quit working. Loss of cruise control, ESC (traction control), 4x4 and speed sensor not registering. Had now storm around the 1st of December and got stuck on road in front of house due to loss of traction control and 4x4 not engaging. Dealer had said 4x4 was working when they informed me the ABS module needed replacement. It currently at a private diesel repair shop and they confirmed the ABS module needs replacement. Currently awaiting a ship and repair service to see if the module will work and fix the loss of above. There were two warning lamps on the dash lit up. The ABS and Traction Control light. I am hoping that all I need is the module repaired and that I don-??t need the HCU replaced. This is super frustrating because there is a recall on the parts but the dealer and the company are in no hurry to find a remedy for the issue.
One instance all the brakes locked up on dry pavement. Second instance the brakes were slowing the truck on a wet surface but would not stop and did not engage the antilock brakes properly. 3rd time brake locked up just on right front wheel.
I have code C0020-01-ABS Pump motor control on in my 2017 Ram 2500 for almost two years. I bought it used at a dealership in Maryland in June 2022 and each time I check with them, the part to fix it is backordered or not available. According to a Star online publication dated 4/28/20 from FCA, when this code is on the HCU and the ECU should be tested and replaced, but the abs module is on parts restriction. Also, NHTSA ODI (NEF-102ig PE22-012) sent a letter to Head, vehicle safety compliance FCA, on January 23, 2023, notifying them that NHTSA had opened a Preliminary Evaluation to investigate allegations of intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance in my truck type and year. I feel this is a severe safety Hazzard and a fix to repair should be immediately available, and a recall issued so the solution is free of charge to owners. At the time of the letter there were 134 reports, but can only imagine there are plenty more by now. Also, I-??m sure there are thousands of owners who don-??t know about this yet. Thank you.
The abs braking system failed and the truck was put in an uncontrolled skid where the brakes completely locked up and crashed into another car. The cause severe damage to 2 cars. I reported it to the dealership and they don't have a fix for it. There were no warning lamps prior to the collision and none are up now.
NHTSA Recall Number24V-896- HCU unit replaced once. Replacement unit has now fully failed. Dealer Dutch Miller Ram of South Charleston made positive diagnosis of failed unit [see attached]. Same dealer notes NC replacement HCU part is not available. Same dealer notes however for a charge of @$1100 Stellantis has replacement units available for installation with a part # separated from remedy part by a single digit. The warning chime causes distracted driving as warning light and chimes occur persistently intermittently. This unpredictability requires driver eyes and attention to confirm cause of warning! Recall letter received early January of 2025!
My truck will lose all throttle response and brakes harder to stop accompanied by a service electronic brake system, service electronic throttle control, and electronic traction control warning. It only happens intermittently and sometimes will go a few weeks before doing it again. (The date below for incident is latest date it happened)
This is related to recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896. The ABS/ESC/Traction control warning lamps come off and on while driving. The recall states that this issue may cause a vehicle to crash without prior warning.
Continuous warnings and tones showing issues for anti lock brakes and stability traction control. In less than 3 months will be a year since the recall was announced and there is no remedy. This is a nuisance and safety issue and should absolutely be a priority to fix. NHTSA #24V-896
This is my 2nd NHTSA complaint regarding this issue on my 2017 Ram 2500. Initial online complaint was done on 4/30/2022 regarding the trucks annoying and unsafe warning light indicating -??Service Electronic Braking System-?? and amber ABS warning light. These warnings began on my truck in 2021 when it only had 12,000 miles. These intermittent warning lights and audible -??dinging-?? still persist today at 22,000 miles. On 2/8/2025, I received notification of Recall #C4B (finally) as a result of the class action lawsuit and was pleased to see this development. To date, I, like many Ram owners are still awaiting parts to become available to have them replaced per the recall and am requesting that the NHTSA step in to assist as we all have essentially unsafe trucks on US highways. I believe this should be a priority, given the fact that owners of 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks often own them to tow trailers (like myself) which leads to additional unsafe conditions on the road. It-??s unacceptable to allow FCA US LLC to continue to delay addressing this recall.
As I approached stop sign and applied brakes the ABS and traction control light came on. My truck then started surging up and down As I attempted to proceed thru the red light my truck stalled and shutoff an on coming car had to stop aggressively to avoid hitting
I received notification of Manufacture Recall C4B (NHTSA Recall 24V-896) in Nov 2024. My intermittent ABS light on my dashboard is continuously going on and off, indicating a problem with the anti-lock braking system since 2024. This prevents the setting of cruise control as well as a constant alarm sound. I feel this directly correlates from the brake hydraulic control unit HCU susceptible to failure or malfunction as stated in the recall and feel unsafe to drive my vehicle due to the potential risk of loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control that may cause my vehicle to crash without prior warning. I have attempted to remedy this situation by contacting the Washington, NC and Greenville, NC Dodge dealerships and Mopar Parts Support (800-765-7732) directly for immediate repair only to be told that they do have my information on a ticket but do not have a part to fix it, but in the same breath tell me I can buy an after market part at my local auto parts store at my cost and have the dealership install at my cost to resolve my issue. This is unacceptable, as I now have a financed vehicle that I purchased from a Dealership and I am unable to confidently drive due to safety concerns that my life and others on the roadway may be in danger. In addition I am continually paying my monthly finance payment, auto insurance, yearly taxes/tags since the recall November 2024 and it is now August 2025 and I have an unsafe undriveable vehicle! I am seeking your assistance to demand the manufacture fix the problem by repairing it, replacing it or repurchasing the vehicle.
Truck has ABS and Traction control lights kicking on and off intermittently. Cruise control will kick off if engaged and won-??t re engage until the lights go back off. Concerned this is gonna be a major safety concern hauling a 10,000 lb trailer
I was notified about a recall (NHTSA 24V-896) with the HCU being susceptible to failure around 1-15-2025. They have yet to fix the problem. They claim they are still working on a fix. I had the original replaced at 7336 miles and now the second unit is sending "check ABS system" lights. It has been 6 months of "chimes and warning lights" and they still claim they do not have a fix yet. Are they even trying to fix the problem or trying to figure out a way to get out of doing it. I would like to NHTSA to look into this matter and urge RAM to fix their manufacturing problem.
When I have gone to slow down and try to stop, the vehicle has slide forward a fee times. I thought it was a little weird, but didn't think to much of it. After a while, my transmission started acting up as well. I will be driving down the road about 50-60mph and it will shift to 4th gear and not come out of 4th gear until stopped and shut off and restarted. I recently heard about the recall when I took my truck to the dealership that is close to where I am located at the moment. I decided to research about the recall and what could happen if that part fails. It showed me that if the recalled part fails, it will cause all the problems that is going on with my truck. I am a full-time rv'er and trailer the country pulling an rv everywhere I go. I am stuck where I am until my truck can be fixed of these problems. This is a major setback and a major financial burden to have to stay where I am until it is fixed. I am near Thomson, GA where I am waiting to have my vehicle fixed.
My HCU has failed resulting in loss of traction & locked steering wheel. The truck is not safely operable at this time and dealerships have repeatedly told me they can-??t fix it. This has been going on for 2 months.
Today I was attempting to come to a complete stop as the light was turning yellow but my brakes were hard to push down and eventually I ending up passing the red light and went gliding through the street. Thankfully no vehicles were passing or oncoming. It was a very horrible experience to have, I no longer trust the car to go on freeways as I am terrified to crash.
