I have a 2017 Ram 3500 and continue to have problems with the ABS brake system. At 17036 miles on 10-08-2020 I had an ABS failure warning light. The Ram Dealer replaced the HCU module which seemed to fix the ABS failure for a short time. At 35832 miles in November of 2023 I am once again getting a ABS warning light. The Ram Dealer now recommends replacing the ABS module and the ABS Pump. ABS failure should not be happening repeatedly on a low mileage vehicle.
Like many others, I am experiencing the Service ABS light coming on which not only disables the ABS system but also disables the cruise control. The chiming of the warning goes off every few seconds and can be extremely distracting. With the ABS no longer working, I and my family are at risk since we use this to tow a 14,000 lb. fifth wheel. I have taken this to a Ram dealer and the diagnostic is the ABS Module / Hydraulic control unit failure. Ram has known this is an issues for several years.
Service Electronic Braking System and Service Anit-Lock Braking System alarm lights. Code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control- General Electric Failure. This issue is related to Anti-Lock braking that can cause injury to my safety and family safety. Problem is very well know and fully reproducible at dealers. Vehicle has been at dealer for long term waiting for dealer to find/repair issue.Dealer is at loss for repair. Dealer repair for this was change HCU and ABS Module. This repair has shown to not work in many scenarios and multiple repair and replace of the same units are not fixing the issues.
While driving the vehicles message display center says "service emergency braking system", the traction control indication light turns on and off, the abs indicator light turns on and off, the park sense indicators turn on and off, and if cruise control is on it is deactivated and turns on and off. An audible chime indication is also sounded when the message center displays a message. With the traction control and abs turning on and off creates an extreme safety problem especially with the winter months ahead. The vehicle has not yet been looked at by a anyone but an appointment has been made with the local dealership. This first started while driving on 11/11/2023. However, the indicator lights and chime still occur while the vehicle is in park and motor running.
ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit have both failed multiple times. Known issue to RAM with no recall issued. Advised not to drive the truck until the parts are available as the brakes may completely fail unexpectedly, leading to loss of stopping ability/accident.

I have less than 60k miles on this truck, and the hydraulic brake module and pump has gone out. Truck has been parked for about 2 years now due to this issue, bc of unreliable brakes. Parts are unavailable.
When I hit a bump my ABS warning light and my traction control light come on on the dash. My cruise control stops working. Had it scanned and there is an error code C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - motor pump (open recirculation test). - internal electronic failure. It comes on and off more often when hitting a bump. This is apparently common and should be a recall.
ABS module and HCU failure. Constant service ABS, traction control, and service brake system warning lights. I lost control of truck on snow covered road when warnings came on causing me to go into the ditch. Knowing that FCA refuses to address the safety concerns, I have not brought the truck to the dealership.
Everytime the truck is driven I hear an audible chime multiple times over the trip with corresponding ABS and Traction control lights that say the systems aren't functioning. Multiple times I have experienced full lock up of all wheels while on snowy or wet roads. The chimes and flashing lights always come and go while rarely staying illuminated for more than 5 minutes, however at times will flash upwards of 15 times in a minute. Cruise control is non operational while the lights are on. This problem has been occurring for several years and best I can recall started shortly after 20 thousand miles.
On 32600miles abs and traction control start glitching. Happened to me on the highway pulling a rv and using cruise control, all of the sudden I lost cruise control on 70 mph and ABS with traction lights came on and off several times and end up go away, I stopped in the safe area and check all related parts on the vehicle that related brakes and abs, fluid was up to level all parts, brakes, wiring was good where I was able to see. After I continued to drive, abs did same thing several times, end up abs and traction lights came on and stayed for a while and all of the sudden for no reason came off for several miles. Sims like bad connection or abs module failure.
This is the third time our 2017 Ram 3500 is showing "Service Electronic Braking system" ABS and STC inoperable. The dealer said it is the same issue as the last 2 times and the parts, ABS controller and hydraulic modules will not be available until February 2024 at the earliest. Major safety issue that needs to be addressed now.
This vehicle has problems with the ABS Module, they have been replaced 3 times, and now the exact same thing is happening again, it is pulling same code from times before C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control General Electrical Failure [brake module] will attach work orders first one 10/11/2018 where module was replaced twice and again on 06/17/20
Antilock brake and traction control stop working randomly. Alarms pop up on Dash board. Seems to happen more when it is humid out. With these safety devices not working the truck is not safe to drive and since the problem is random dealer can not find the cause.
ABS and traction control. Is available for inspection. Loss of these functions increases the risk for loss of control. Has been inspected by the dealer. Parts to fix are in high demand and are not available until March of 2024. Warning lamps ABS and the traction control laps are on. First appeared in August 2023.
The front calpher locked up on the passenger front; appx 4 months later (1000) miles the driver brake calpher locked up. Possible fire or accident due to vehicle swerving after locked brake occurred. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer where it was purchased and repaired, cost was $2,191.60 for passenger front. Will pickup today for driver front repair. No warning lights or messages service manager told Chrysler Corp. That the reason this is happening is because the vehicle is not being driven enough, that is the reason given for the failure.

These failures can result in loss of TRACTION and braking control which could lead to collision and bodily harm. These issues were repaired by the dealer and no parts returned for analysis. There is no failure indication until the warning light comes on.
