This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The ABS system has deactivated along with traction control and all the lights are on the dash with a message that says service electronic brakes system. Stellantis claims that I am not included in the recall even though my model year and model match others being recalled and the part needed to complete the repair is the one that is being redesigned because the original one is faulty. Please help!
Break controller/traction control/cruise control all are not working an being a RV owner WE tow a 2014 Redwood 42 foot 5th wheel, 16000 max weight (our scaled is 14640 pounds). We do not feel that it is safe to tow our RV with the recall that affects towing. This is the 3rd recall/repair on this truck. Please advise us on the towing recommendation/safety on using our truck to tow our RV.
I own a 2017 ram 3500 that has had ABS brake problem, been trying to fix for years they have no parts available. I don't understand how other people or getting trucks fixed but we seem to get put aside. I actually had two trucks with same problem had to trade the 2018 in with value loss for check engine light with ABS. I was give a case number but no dealers have contacted for repairs. Case 92030267.
Failure of anti-lock brake system module (abm). Failure of anti-lock brake system hydraulic control unit (hcu). Both have failed and have been replaced *twice* at dealership in under 40,000 miles. Warning light and audible warning indicated problem. Brake response dangerously inadequate. This problem is under NHTSA 24V-896 / fca C4B. However this VIN apparently excluded and/or not recognized as included in recall by fca/NHTSA. This is in error and must be remediated.
Defective HCU. 2015 Ram 3500 single rear wheel 4 wheel drive with 40,000 miles. ABS light, ESC/Traction Control codes and dingers started in 2020 at 28,000 miles. DTC code indicates defective HCU. Several dealerships have been unable to address repairs due to updated parts unavailable from FCA. This vehicle with known defective braking system has been restricted to local errands for 4+ years for safety reasons while family camper remains stored.
Abs Failure, at around 80,000 miles, Truck is unusable, brake drags and causes overheating, can not get to dealer unless towed. All ABS system lights and failure warning lights are on Have been paying on vehicle which has been unusable since 6/2022 Dealer says parts are not available
Needed to use brakes but unexpectedly the pedal did not work or stop the vehicle. Had to swerve into a ditch to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Abs, traction lights then activated.
Antilock brake module failure and no traction control. Also no cruise control. Having this problem for over two years, took vehicle to dealer and replaced valve in abs system. Having the same problem again for one and a half years now. Please fix.
My truck has 57,000 miles on it. Keeps getting "Service electronic braking system" and "ABS" message. "ABS" fault light and "Traction control" fault light comes on. Lights and message stay on for a couple seconds. Does this over and over. I had this problem before when the truck had about 20,000 miles on it. Braking system hydraulic control unit (HCU) was replaced under warranty. Contacted dealer service department and was told it was safe to drive, but abs may not work properly.
[XXX] I got a check engine light and associated ABS and traction control light. Roads were dry and braking seemed fine. Lights eventually went out. Service department at dealership said sometimes moisture will cause this. No codes. Between May and October this problem has become repetitive and has been in the dealership service department multiple times. Codes show only when lights are on. Wheel speed sensor has been replaced (twice), but did not solve problem. Other features affected when these lights are on: 4WD will not engage, cruise control inop, rear collision sensor inoperative. My truck has been in the shop (dealership at Lithia in Anchorage, AK) since 10 Oct. Technician has said it needs ABS module and hydraulic pump, but FCA (or Stellantis who issued service contract) will not release parts (or they are out of parts and won-??t admit). Apparently Ram engineers don-??t believe service tech and are having him chase an electrical problem and now hub replacement. A quick internet search and it appears thousands of Ram owners (17-18) have dealt with this problem. The mileage is just shy of 110,000 and service contract expires at 125k or Jun 25. As a consumer I-??m stuck between Ram engineers, and service department at dealership (currently without vehicle). A heavy duty pickup in Alaska is useless w/o 4WD on the rapidly approaching winter. This is obviously a known problem and needs resolution.
Component Failure: ABS ECU and HCU modules presented a trouble code C0020-01 after dashboard warning of ABS System problem. Safety Risk: Pulling my 12,000 trailer down the I-5 Grapevine without ABS, Traction Control or Cruise Control is very dangerous to myself and others. Failure Reproduced and confirmed by independent service center. Manufacturer (Stellantis) RAM insisted they change the HCU module before changing the ECU module (P/N 68347098AC). The HCU replacement did not clear the code, The manufactuer has a hold on shipping any ECU units to their dealer network. Truck has been out of service for three weeks! Dated 10/22/2024
The abs and traction control lights flash on and off. They also have remained off and the back on for while. Happens a lot during summer and when driving for a while. While on cruise control and the lights comes sudden loss of power and agrressive engine slow down causing the vehicle to shake. Has happen multiple times.
The Hydraulic Control Unit Chrysler part number 68143491AA failed and Ram refuses to replace/repair it and I-??ve been waiting a year. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts the driver and others at risk. It also disables the cruise control and 4 wheel drive. I have contacted my local dealer multiple times and they have made no attempt to help me. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no Warning lamps/messaged before failure only after. These would be ABS lamp and traction control lamp plus a service ABS warning message. "
On two separate occasions I had total brake loss, the truck has under 21,000 miles on it and while driving and trying to stop I have total brake loss, today I almost rear end a car due to the failure, luckily for them I have relatively good reflexes and I don-??t panic, if either of those were not true I possibly could of killed the two occupants of the car in front of me, I was traveling approximately 70 miles an hour on the interstate had had to apply my brakes. When I did I had absolutely no brakes at all, no idiot lights or anything warning me of the problem, this was the second time this occurred, the first time I was on my way home at night and went to stop at a stop sign at an intersection and again total brake loss, both these times I limped home, hoping I would make it home safely. This needs to be investigated before some dies
