Pinion gear fell into front differential because nut that holds it tight is supposed to have the rim peened into a groove in the threads. This was never done by the factory. Truck broke down and gears got ground up. Had to get it, bring it to a mechanic who would work on the weekends (truck is supposed to be working all week and then some), had to take apart front axle to drive it as 2wd for a week because that's how long it took to get parts. Mechanic put it together the next weekend - parts were almost $5k plus mechanic time came to $6k. I had bought 2 of same trucks at same time, so of course checked other one - which was installed properly (shows me that they do know how to do it right - just didn't on one truck). Got runaround from customer support to dealer service to dealer owner back to customer support where they said "too bad because you're over on mileage (on your truck that you bought 2.5 yrs ago that would have been ok if we assembled it properly)". I'm glad my mechanic found this and let me know. But now that it's getting to be time to look at new trucks, I'll be looking elsewhere. Seemed to me least they could do is provide the repair parts for their defective manufacturing.
