CarComplaints.com Notes: Is burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles normal? Depends on who you ask. While Subaru says it's within "normal specifications," owners wonder why they need to top off their oil reservoir 4 times between every 5,000 mile oil change.

Forester Limited 2.5L

  • CVT transmission

CVT started to whine at low speeds after exiting the freeway. CVT then started to rumble with a slight jerky feel at highway speeds thereafter. I had an independent service provider diagnose problem before taking Forester to OEM dealer. Their recommendation was to replace CVT. I then took my Forester to the Subaru OEM dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they agreed to replace the CVT with a re-manufactured unit on their $8k dime.

New transmission $1000! Get it repaired $3500 +++ I reckon the dealer caused the problem anyway. It's never been as smooth as it was before adjustments about a year ago
