I bought a CPO 2013 and drove it for almost 1 year, had ~80,000 miles on it and heard a funny, faint sound under the hood. I took it to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong and there is no check engine light so nothing to check. The sound kept bothering me, so I took it in again about 2 weeks later. The front-end guy asked if I would like good new or bad news first. I chose bad news. He said, "you need a new transmission and the work will cost $8,000." I teared up and asked for the good-"it is covered under that extra gold warranty you purchased." Whew!

I waited about a month before the phone call that my new transmission is in and ready for pick-up. I picked it up, drove a little ways up the interstate in a snow storm, transmission made a horrible sound, so I worked my way to the right lanes when the transmission dropped, AWD locked. I was able to control the slide and get to the far right lane, but still with semis trying not to hit me. The sheriff was using his pusher and couldn't get it out of the way. Wrecker came...

I received a phone call from dealer's insurance company that it was a faulty repair. 6 hours of not trying to get f-ed over by this dealership and I went home in a brand new 2015 Impreza sport premium. I have done EVERY BIT of maintenance, planning on the Subaru promise that this should last 300,000 miles. I get a letter from Subaru late 2017 stating 2013-2015 Imprezas (and other models/years) have a known issue and warranty is extended to 100k/10yrs and if over 100k, transmissions are covered until 2018. I was far outside that window. I have 170,000 miles on this pristine car and it needs a new transmission.

I am so mad at Subaru! My first new car that I cared ever so much for is done at 170,000 miles. I could have spent the money on something fun that actually had features and a sound system that works after 1 year.

Another CVT transmission failure. Just outside of Subaru's 'Extended warranty' .

GET rid of your Subaru BEFORE you hit the 60k/ or the extended 100k transmission warranty!!!!!

Last Subaru me or extended family will ever own.

Impreza 2.0L

I've been buying Subaru's for the past 25 years. I've had: GL, DL, Loyale, Brat, Legacy, forester, and most recently an Impreza. I'm not happy! My CVT Transmission failed; to replace it with a junkyard tranny is $1800, a new tranny through Subaru is 7K. The vehicle is not covered by the extended warranty from Subaru. Over the past 10-20 years I became accustomed to replacing head-gaskets at ~120K miles for about $1500-.

Now instead of a bad head-gasket I have to be concerned about transmission failure! I've lost faith in Subaru and will not buy another new Subaru until they improve there customer service. I have had an ongoing electrical problem with this vehicle as well that started under the warranty and Subaru will not cover it. I don't trust Subaru service anymore.
