The electronic system "has a mind of it's own". It's a known problem. Reportedly caused by "system delamination". Radio scans on it's own, dials a number never requested, puts people on hold during conversation. More recently (July 2024) the reverse alarm did not activate when backing up causing me to hit a telephone pole with $4000 in damage. It causes the driver to try to reset while driving and taking eyes off the road. It has the potential to be a serious potential accident causing issue. It has been reported to Subaru - Case # 240707-1200003.
They agree it's a problem and have offered to pay for the part replacement, but not for the labor which is quoted as $398.00 for work that they have admitted needs to be fixed.
Just over 3 years new, and with only about $20,000 miles, the touchscreen started to develop bubbling under the screen which shortly thereafter caused the touchscreen to freeze and go haywire. No Bluetooth Phone, No back-up camera, No navigation, No radio, etc.
Despite Subaru knowing of this delamination manufacturing defect, class-action lawsuits, and multiple service bulletins, Subaru has unfairly refused to cover the cost of approximately $1,500 for a new unit which is on backorder for several months.
This is in addition to the parasitic battery drain issues plaguing its vehicles over the past few years due to a faulty ECM Unit.
