I had a 2001 Subaru Outback and it was great in the snow and any slick condition. I just upgraded and got a 2006 Legacy Outback Wagon. I bought it used, and it seems to drive great in dry conditions, and even on bumpy dirt roads, as I live 2 miles down a dirt driveway. We finally got some snow up here in the Sierra Nevada and I decided to take it up the mountain to go have a snow day.

By the time I was on the road and heading up, the snow, which was minimal to begin with, was getting pretty slushy, not icy. I would hit 10ft patches of slush and the car would jerk from the back wheels. It was a motion that I could not create from the drivers seat. All passengers, especially those in the back, could feel it. It was very scary. I used to pass people all the time going up to the mountains in my 2001 Outback, and this time, I was getting passed by 2 wheel drive soccer mom mini vans. It was very scary. I had people tailgating me with 2 wheel drive vehicles.

I have been reading that I am not the only one with this problem, but no one seems to know what it is. There is no traction control in my model, so I've read, and I'm not sure what it is. The car seems to hold a straight line while in slick conditions, but it feels like at any point I am going to spin out and fly off a cliff. I have only had the car for 3 weeks, and was in love with it. Now I'm thinking that I may have to sell it, as I love my mountains and live in snowy conditions, on a normal non-drought year.
