The small camera mounted on the lift gate fails to operate after I have opened and closed the lift gate (but not all the time) and / or when the rear of the vehicle is subjected to a high pressure car wash spray.
Logically, there seems to be some type of connection failure that occurs in that the problem only exists after there is some type of vibration exerted on the camera lens area (i.e. shutting the lift gate or spraying it with high pressure water). By the same token, it takes some vibration in the same area to get it working again.
I've driven my entire life without the need for or use of a rear camera (including trucks) with no accidents. I find the camera screen more of a distraction than a help. This camera is a feature I would have not opted for if it had been a choice - it wasn't a choice.
I've read that in a few years all new cars will be required by law to have such a backup camera. Given that, I will definitely have my dealership resolve this issue.
