This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The passenger side 'occupant detection sensor module' is faulty. This module has been recalled on similar Subaru vehicles recently. The module detects an occupant in the passenger seat, and either activates or deactivates the supplemental restraint system. At approximately 135K miles, the sensor began to routinely turn the airbag off when the passenger seat was occupied. This occurs while the vehicle is at interstate speed to idle speed. Subaru (at the dealership in grand junction, co) has performed a diagnosis and provided me this information.
Overly sensitive front passenger airbag sensor. After working out side in the summer, the sweat from a passengers body will turn off the airbag, even if it wasn't much sweat. Dealer told me it was a common problem and there was no fix. Most summer days in Texas I have no passenger airbags due to the sweat from walking to my car. Also airbag will turn on with as little as 2-5 lbs of pressure. These errors happen in all phases of driving.
