Loud roaring noise from the rear of the car. I took it into the Subaru dealership and wheel bearing had gone out in the right rear. Now both sides have had to be replaced due to failure. The first one was replaced because it was still under warranty, $0 out of pocket. The second one I paid the co payment of $100 due to it falling under the extended warranty.

Both rear wheel bearings gone out before I had over 60,000 miles on the car. Not good. I also don't know if they were replaced by the same brand and type that went out. There has not been a recall on this issue although I've read where others are having problems. I think it's time to sell and get something else before I have to pay the whole amount to replace. Subaru has let me down.

Loud roaring noise in the left rear of the car. Took the car into the Subaru dealership and found that the wheel bearing had went out.

It's very low miles for a wheel bearing to go out.

The humming came on slowly and progressively got louder over about 2000 miles until I had them replaced. At which point it sounded like a small airplane.

I'm not even finished paying for this car and have put thousands in it to repair various problems - the latest of which is a bad wheel bearing which caused a distracting noise in the cabin of the car. I bought a Subaru because I bought the line that it is a reliable, safe car. This is my first and last Subaru. A.C. broke within 3 years, had to pay for a new steering rack within 3 years. Subaru paid for half of the $1500 cost for the steering rack. They must know that it's a POS. And now the wheel bearing. Not to mention that no one told me that when you have tire damage that can't be repaired, you have to buy four new tires. And now the wheel bearing. This is the final straw - goodbye Crosstrek, goodbye for good Subaru. Oh - and the recent recall because of the failure of brake light switch. Bad news car.

Not a big deal, just information for others. I noticed a hum (likened to a prop airplane) sound coming from the rear of the car. Frequency increased along with speed, but not engine rpm. Remained constant with transmission in neutral. Figured tires or wheel bearings. Previous experience with other vehicles lead me to believe it was the bearings. Ordered new ones $170 and installed myself. Easy job for decent mechanic.
