As an 8 year Toyota employee, I felt secure in purchasing this car, even though I’d heard the negativity surrounding CVT units. I was certain that Toyota would get it right. Well I was wrong. The last few weeks, every time it’s started after sitting for several hours, there’s an annoying tapping noise from the transmission (verified by 2 different shops), when put into gear. This eventually goes away as the fluid warms, but my guess is that it’s a ticking time bomb.
