Front main seal leaked so bad the vehicle ran but really could not be driven, as it would run out of oil completely in maybe 100 miles or so. This kind of stuff happens I guess but with all the fantastic press constantly praising how wonderful and great Toyotas are, I was a little disappointed that this serious a problem happened with this so-called "bullet proof" 22RE engine after so few of miles - around 120K or so (I've owned numerous vehicles with higher mileage than this with NO engine problems). After my 185K miles I've put on it and all the work I would describe it as maybe being worthy of "spit ball" proof status. It does run barely. But "bullet proof" should be a description reserved for much much more worthy engines than the 22RE. Something by Yugo or Renault, Fiat maybe? Anything is better....
