have not been able to use the back hatch at all, since this has happened. Apparently they want a small fortune to fix this issue, which has had complaints about this problem since 1999 after investigating the issue. What is Toyota thinking? Fix the problem you idiots, beef up the customer service or do us a favor and do a recall, instead of charging every customer that buys your vehicles a fortune to fix a problem you knew existed.

This is the second time this PLASTIC handle has broken on this vehicle. There is an obvious design defect in the asymmetrical load placed on material that cannot withstand repeated torque pressures. The part should be manufactured out of metal. They must know this and continue to produce plastic replacement parts. Therefore, I must conclude that this is part a campaign to keep their service personnel busy and the coffers at the dealership full. When this part breaks, you simply lose the utility of the vehicle.

I shall never buy another Toyota. I believed this to be a quality truck and am truly disappointed.

Had this repaired at same time as replacing rear window motor. Lived without operating the rear window for a long time-couldn't live more than a few days without the use of the rear hatch.
