We acquired this "sticky dashboard" problem when we purchased a 2008 Solara used from the original owner. That owner had received Toyota's notification concerning the problem but, for whatever reason, the problem had not been addressed. The first we knew of the situation was when the dash became "gooey".
Toyota has admitted the problem but has dragged its' heels on replacing the defective dashboards. At present, 11 years out from first use of the vehicle, we have a problem that Toyota refuses to address - a dealer replacement cost of $2000 - and a dashboard that resembles flypaper.
We've driven Toyotas for decades and always counted on their quality. This is a very poor performance on Toyota's part and a serious BLACK MARK on their reputation. Their refusal to make good on a part they admit is defective will come back to haunt them!!
We'd be extremely interested in any legal measure currently underway to force Toyota to take responsibility for this debacle and would certainly join in any such action.
