Tundra Limited 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission

I bought a 2016 Limited Toyota Tundra Crew Max on November 17th, 2015. A few minutes after leaving the dealer with the brand new vehicle, the radio/nav/entertainment system started restarting. It restarts no matter what source of music or entertainment is playing and it restarts during Bluetooth phone calls and cuts the audio off. With Thanksgiving coming up this Thursday, I am going out of town and I now have to buy or borrow a GPS to find my way because I am unable to use the navigation in my brand new $50K Tundra.

I took the car back to the dealer on November 21st, 2016 and after waiting for 3 hours they told me that they found no codes and that if the problem continued I would have to bring the truck back and leave it all day. I left in disgust because I did not understand why they hooked up the diagnostic tool when I told them that this issue of restarts is well documented online in numerous forums and that the fix is to get the latest software update and load it via the USB port. They seemed to understand when I first told them but went in a totally different direction.

I since opened a case with Toyota headquarters and I am awaiting a call back from the dealership. They are supposed to call back within 2 business days which means that tomorrow at the latest I should get a call. I cannot play any music, make any phone calls or use the navigation without frequent and abrupt restarts. This morning on my way to work, the radio restarted about 12 times within 30 minutes. This is ridiculous and after being a Nissan customer for close to 20 years and after deciding to break tradition and give Toyota a chance, my experience leaves me questioning my decision and wondering if I should go back to Nissan and never give Toyota another chance. For such a well documented issue to require fixes year after year and still Toyota is selling new vehicles with the same issue is not just bad business, but a shame for such a major auto company to place such little effort into impressing its existing customers and new customers like myself. I will see what happens next and update accordingly.
