CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Going 55 mph. All of a sudden car lose power. Engine sounds like it's in neutral but shift lever is in D. if you press gas, engine speed shows on the tach but transmission not responding. Made a very harrowing condition as I tried to find a safe place to pull over. When shifted from D to P, very hard jerking motion that shook the car violently, trans makes a very hard clunking noise, and as if wants to separate from the engine. Same result when shifted from P to R, and P to D. car is currently parked waiting for mechanic to diagnose. Don't have money to take it to overpriced dealer. From what I can see from blogs, forums, boards, etc, on the internet looks like not an isolated case.

When theying to accept on a city street the car would not go. Odo error came up. Speedometer wouldn't move at all. Car was turned off and restarted. Wrench light and check engine light came on. Car moves a little bit but did not run normal and clunked hard when put in park. Mechanic says it's a sensor issue that's common in this car.

Made a turn off interstate into a busy road, my vehicle jerked and lost its ability to accelerate. Leaving me in a very dangerous situation with cars flying around me to avoid hitting me. I managed to make it into a parking lot. I had a friend check the vehicle and with the hood up he had me put in reverse and it looked like the motor was going to jump out of the vehicle, same happened in drive. He put his computer on and a code for the drive speed sensor was present. The code was cleared and then noticed the speed and RPM gauges were inaccurate. This happens on occasion. Upon research I see this sensor has a recall on it but not for my year 08 Edge. Please recall asap. This can cause some seriously bad accident when your vehicle looses its ability to accelerate when in traffic. I fear this will happen and my life is in the line. Ford is aware there is a apparent problem noted by other year make model recalls. Note: This is the original complaint.....................today the same has happened again, I was greeted by horns blowing and aggressive drivers but was unable to do anything but coast to the next intersection to turn off. NHTSA pleasw do something if possible. This output drive speed sensor is going to get someone killed soon. There are numerous complaints throughout this feed under scattered categories mainly because most do not know what the problem is and dealers cant figure out if the vehicle doesn't throw up a code. I had mine checked when the warning light was on so I would know the issue. Unfortunately the dealer couldn't help because we cleared the code. I checked into geeting this fixed but according to the dealer the part is unavailable, and the labor would be absurd if they had to replace. Please help!

Two weeks ago I was driving on NJ rout 9 when the transmission sounded like it was in neutral but it wasn't. all the warning lights were on and was able to drive to a safe area and stop. I did not turn the car off and exited the car and tried to open the rear doors and hatch but couldn't. next I turned the car off and waited a few minutes before starting it. When it started, all was fine. The next morning I drove it to a transmission shop without incident. There was only 62,000 miles on it at the time but the warranty expired because it was more than seven years. The oss was replaced at a cost of $750. This is not the firs major issue with this vehicle. Less than one year ago two coils faulted causing a back feed of too much voltage to the computer causing it to fry. A cost of more than $3,000 to repair.

When you step on the gas there is no power. When this happened the air bag light came on and the speedometer. Wouldn't work the tack reved up the low tire pressure light came on and the little wrench light came on. The car would not go. Now it's going to cost around $3000 to fix is what I was told and the car only has 90,000 miles on it. I see a lot of people are having the same issue. Ford should issue a recall for these transmissions. Before someone gets injured. I was driving down the road when I lost power good thing I could pull over safely.

I have a 2008 Edge w/ 120K miles and once in a while, it gets stuck in the 1st gear. It did it to me twice in one month, and I notice it when I'm going down hill (like a parking garage). Once I'm out on the street, that's where it gets stuck in the first gear. I had to pull over turn off the Edge wait for about 1 minute and started it back up, and I like it resets the system cause it works fine after that.

Vehicle often shifts hard. In the (7) years that we've had the 2008 Ford Edge, there have been (6) occasions that we have been travelling 60 to 70 mph and the speedometer will fall to zero, and the odometer will read "odometer data error". we can still travel at 60mph or so but the engine rpms climb to 3000 and you lose power. You can't climb a hill, except in reverse, and unless you're on level ground you can't move at all. The "wrench" lights up on the dash and the only way to get out of this situation is to stop the vehicle, turn off the ignition and wait for 5 to 10 minutes for everything to reset. I'm very concerned for my family's safety on the highways as they travel without me quite often.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle jerked as it slowed down. The contact stated that the vehicle was downshifting roughly. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Wrench light, dashes on odometer, speedometer on zero, airbag light on. Loses the ability to accelerate properly. It has happened 6 times this month, usually on the highway after I've had to slow down with traffic and try to accelerate again. Get to the side of the road or a parking lot and shut the car off. Restart it all warning lights are gone but still will not accelerate. Shift in and out of reverse and drive with very loud knocking and jerking. Move car back and forth. Restart and repeat multiple times before it resets itself. It never happens by somewhere that can scan it to get a code. As the wrench light goes off and stays off after you restart the car no one can tell me what's wrong. It is extremely frustrating. I am quickly losing faith in Ford and their regards for customers safety. Good thing I don't live where there are mountains because if I did I am sure I would have been in an accident by now. It has happened twice this week. 5 times were highway 1 was on a busy 4 lane road. It has jerked when shifting around 45 mph for about 3 years now.

I can be driving down the highway set on cruise control and my vehicle will come up odometer failure a wrench light, and transmission light and several others come on no speedometer. If I come to a stop taking off the vehicle is stuck in high gear and will barely pick up any speed until it makes a hard loud shift. You can pull over and reset it but when you take off it is the same thing. This is very dangerous you don't know when it will happen and I have been in the middle lane on a highway before when it kicked out. This has been linked back to bad tss and oss sensors in the transmission they need to be recalled before it kills someone.

Odo error data error while driving. Odometer stops working, wrench light turns on, then air bag light. Loss of power, transmission gets stuck in gear. You can't accelerate and have to cruise on to the right to pull over. Happened twice, once on the freeway. Code goes to the speed sensor which controls the transmission shifting. After you turn off your car and turn it on code resets however car is stuck in gear. After a few hard shifts finally goes back into gear. Ford dealership says common problem however can't figure out if its a harness or the sensors. Replacing sensors requires dropping the transmission.

While driving vehicle transmission skipped a couple of times. After stopping the transmission made a whining noise. When I moved forward it was very slow to move and would not accelerate properly. Arriving home I put the vehicle in reverse and it made a clunking noise. It is currently at the transmission shop for evaluation.

My brakes make a hissing noise when I press down.. I have to press all the way down to get it to stop. This is very dangerous.also, my back tail lite has had to be replaced 2 times because the socket got hot. Also, my car jumps sometimes when pressing on the gas(transmission issue?) I have also had the gas tank replaced(due to a recall)

My car has multiple warning lights come on all at the same time. My dash says odo system fail, then is says the tire pressure monitor fails, the wrench for transmission comes on, then the tire pressure symbol comes on and flashes, the air bag light comes on, and the check engine light comes on. Then my odometer goes to zero. If I slow down to a stop sign or something, I push the gas and the RPM's on my car go way up but my car hardly moves. Once I get going to a higher speed, the RPM's go down...it is almost like it is stuck in a high gear. Then when I put my car into drive after it was in park, my car jolts and makes a huge clanking noise. If I shut my car off and turn it back on, it makes a loud clanking noise but all my warning lights turn off except the check engine light. Then when I push the gas again, it is still barely moving and in high RPM's but it will randomly kick into whatever gear it needs to be in and make another loud clanking sound and run fine. This is very dangerous and I am not sure why it has not been recalled yet. This happened to me for the first time in the middle of a four way stop and I blocked the intersection and almost got hit by another car. This is eventually going to cause great harm or even death to someone.

My vehicle's transmission acts likes it's slipping or in neutral when it's not. Jerks when it shifts gears. Loses power when I try to accelerate. I did some research there are hundreds of complaints about the transmissions in the Ford Edge's. I started having issues several weeks ago back in October 2016. Why should all the owners of these defective transmission have to pay for this to be fixed. That's not right! we gave Ford our hard earned money just to get a defective vehicle. Talked to Ford today and they don't care. Not going to do anything they stated. Today I was at a 4 way stop in a school zone and when I wanted to take off it acted like it was in neutral. I got to where I could pull over and sat there a few minutes and was able to drive it the other mile home. It clunks when changing gears and jerks. It is a intermittent problem as it doesn't happen everyday.

Stopped at a light would not pull forward afterwards loud clunking noise, airbag light came on, service light came on, odometer went to zero, car would jerk while in gear but wouldn't move forward or reverse. I've done some research on this problem, hundreds of people are having the same problem with 2007 and 2008 Edge. With most being transmission sensor failure. Ford knows of this problem won't do anything about it.
