CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Ford Escape has an acceptable complaint history so far, with leaking rear window problems showing up as the main concern so far. NHTSA complaint data shows an early pattern of problems with stalling while driving.

Another concern is the 2012 Escape rolled onto its roof during an NHTSA side impact test so it only received a marginal side impact rating ... not good.

The car was parked and left for a couple hours and the back window was shattered. There was no indication of foul play and the color of the glass was black, compared to a tinted color.

My vehicle was sitting in the driveway when the rear windshield exploded outward. There was glass blown outward around the back of my SUV and under the vehicle tires next to mine. I was completely shocked then I Googled this and found this site and realized I wasn't the only one this had happened to. I didn't think to take pictures at the time because I was so upset that this happened. Luckily we weren't driving when this happened.

I called Ford Customer Service the next morning and the woman told me I was 2 months over my warranty for this but to take it into the dealership anyway because in this situation they had the authority to go beyond my warranty. I called the Ford dealership and was told I don't need an appointment to just come in. I drove the hour to get to the nearest Ford dealership on the highway with no rear windshield only to get there and be told that I was 2 months out of warranty and they would take pictures to send to Ford but he could guarantee that this claim would not be honored.

I waited until the next day and called the dealership back again as I left my car there and was told no it wont be covered under warranty and I would have to pay full price for it. I have since called Ford Canada customer service again and they are going to contact the dealership on my behalf to try and help me. I normally don't bother to complain about things like this but this is not a mechanical problem that was caused due to wear and tear on my car. This is the windshield exploding on its own. I don't think 2 months on a warranty should exclude this type of problem.

Going to work early (6:35am) Monday morning, driving around 35-40mph, when all of a suddenly I hear a BIG BOOM and the sound of something being splatter and hitting the back of my head. The Next thing I know I feel a big gust of cold air in the car and when I look through my rear view mirror, I see that my rear lift gate window and just exploded. All this happen when I was driving. The back seat and the back of the SUV were covered with hundreds of pieces. The two hydraulic bars that control the opening of the door along with the rear window wiper assembly were just hanging there. Needless to say It scared me to death. It was just a blessing that It wasn't raining no snowing. I Took it to my my dealership and was told that FORD is NOT responsible for the replacement and that I was responsible for ALL of the repairs/replacement necessary. Why ME? Is it not a flaw in the design somehow? After researching I see that it has happen to other people as well. Something needs to be Done. Customers should be held responsible for these Rear Windows exploding, just because FORD decided to put the Hydraulic bars on the window. Again SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

back windshield exploded/smashed on own back windshield exploded/smashed on own back windshield exploded/smashed on own

Normal day driving. I was making a left turn on a traffic light at about 20 MPH nobody behind me when all of the sudden, boom!!! A small explosion and the rear window was gone. I stopped the car and look to see if there were any rock or objects but nothing. The back window simply suffered a catastrophic failure.

I went to the dealer and despite many complaints related to this window catastrophic failure problem nothing has been done about it. I am an engineer and I understand what could be the possibilities to cause this failure. I will talk to Ford to see if it can be resolved. Otherwise, I will conduct an investigation and proceed with legal action if I can not get somewhere with Ford.

I was headed to my 2012 Ford Escape at 8am when I looked up and saw that the entire rear windshield had been smashed. I park very close to my house and was not convinced this was an act of vandalism. My car was parked and in my driveway. Nothing was stolen from my vehicle.

Upon investigating I found that there were multiple other complaints about the Ford Escape's rear windshield exploding for no reason. How has there not been a recall? I called my dealership to ask if another other SUVs had been reported and he said there was a similar problem in 2008 but it had been fixed since then. How do we get the ball rolling on this recall??
