CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

In December of 2011 my car had a recall for fracturing wheel studs. I bought my car at a year old. A few months after I bought my car two wheel studs snapped off. I called Ford to get the parts to fix it and they said nothing about the recall. Then about 6 months later on opposite side another wheel stud broke. I again called Ford and then they decide to mention the recall. Apparently there was one issued before I owned my car and only the drivers side had been fixed. Even though I had had studs break off on drivers side after the recall. So they did the recall on the passenger side. Since then I have had studs break 3 different times on both sides. I contacted Ford and they say there is nothing they can do about it. This to me is a very big safety issue and I dont feel like I should be paying to replace these or driving a vehicle with potential of a wheel falling off.

During a routine tire rotation, one of the lug nut studs broke off of the front driver's side wheel. There were no signs of corrosion, cross-threading or other damage to the stud, it simply sheered off at the wheel surface when the mechanic tried to loosen the lug nut. This is the second time this has happened on the same wheel, and in both cases the mechanic indicated that he had never seen a stud break off under those circumstances and he had no explanation for how it could have happened. I know that Ford conducted a recall for this same issue on certain 2011 Ford Fusion, but my vehicle was not included in the recall. However, the problems I am having are identical to those identified in the recall, and I question whether the recall was broad enough.

I was driving into a parking lot and my power steering light came on to service soon I parked my car then when I went to leave and started my car, the light went to service now and I had no power steering at all. I am a college student and just bought this car less than 5 months ago and I am very lucky that this didn't happen on my way home while driving through the mountain areas I have to drive through from college or I could have had a fatal or serious accident. I don't have the money to fix this and I believe Ford Motor Company should recall and repair this serious issue and since there is several complaints.

When loosening my lug nuts for a routine tire rotation, a wheel stud broke off on each of my front tires, for a total of two broken studs. The last time the right front wheel was tightened was at Ford to replace a previous broken lug nut! Ford would not replace all of my wheel studs at that time. Recall #11V574000 (Ford recall #11S23) does not list the manufacturing date of my vehicle so Ford would not replace all wheel studs! I feel like I am driving in a death trap and it is only a matter of time before a wheel falls off while driving! NHTSA please help! please expand the recall to include all 2011 Ford Fusion regardless of manufacturing date. I have never used air tools on the wheel and the lugs have always been torqued to manufacturer's recommended specification (100 ft lbs).

I turned the steering wheel to make a left turn into cross street the steering did not respond easily. Checked the front left tire. It had a bubble and it burst, the tire deflated and the car was resting on the rim. The tire could not be patched. I had to order a new tire (Goodyear Eagle)

Noticed a lug nut was missing from my right front tire. On closer inspection I saw that the wheel stud was broken off. I have never used air tools on the wheel and the lugs have always been torqued to manufacturer's recommended specification (100 ft lbs). There is a similar recall #11V574000 (Ford recall #11S23) active, but it does not list the manufacturing date of my vehicle in this recall.

I was doing 55 mph and my car stalled, the wrench and check engine light came on then the car stopped. After a couple attempts the car started and I was allowed to drive although I was scared and got off the freeway. I also have had a problem with my wheels knocking when I turn like one of the tires are going to come off. Now I have to replace the throttle body! I took the car to the mechanic and now all these things have to be fixed and have become quite costly, not to mention the car was made to not have a gas cap" really" I'm starting to wonder if the Ford Fusion is the right car to have and the safety questions are always in my head because if a car stops on the freeway while doing 55 a serious accident can't be too far behind. I pray these issues all get addressed and recalled so no one gets killed! I did research on this website and found that the same issues have happened to many others but when I called Ford's customer relations department I was told there are no recalls for my VIN. I can't imagine I am the only one having these troubling issues taking place but it only affected certain models. Seems to me all Ford Fusion should have these items recalled and replace regardless of what model. I now have to keep my receipt from the mechanic because it was not a Ford dealer who fixed my car and hope that the recall on these issues will allow me to get my hard earned monies back one day soon. Frustrated Ford Fusion owner to say the least.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 11V574000 (wheels: Lugs nuts, bolts) was received January 2012. The failure and the current mileage was 4,000.

While performing the first tire/wheel rotation on our new 2011 Ford Fusion sport with aluminum wheels more than one wheel stud broke off when torquing to factory specifications. The factory manual calls for a torque of 100fp. Initially lacking the factory torque spec I started with 75fp and even at 75fp felt one lug nut turn what felt like too far as compared to the others. I obtained the torque value from the owners manual (100fp) and proceeded to complete the torque to the recommended 100fp. One stud then twisted off prior to reaching 100fp. Having seen that the NHTSA is performing an investigation I thought I would add the following. It occurs to me that with the aluminum rims and the shape of the lug nut there may not be enough friction between the lug nut and the wheel to allow for proper torque.

Had to have flat tire repaired. When technicians tried to place wheel on 2011 Fusion two (2) of the wheel bolts twisted and would not hold at the required torque level. Had to replace two of the five wheel bolts. Took car to Ford dealer to have all wheel bolts replaced. Their response was that they could not find anything wrong with bolts, had no technical bulletins, safety issues, recalls, etc. And would not even repay for the two bots that were deformed. The two deformed bolts were given to the Ford service department. I gave them evidence of the problem, complete description, repair shop that found the problem, ( whom I have used for over 30 years), and got the answer, if it happens again bring it back. I hope when I bring it back it is not after an accident where someone is injured.if you have questions, please contact my father, kenneth seal.
