I never had any problems with my 1996 Nissan Altima gxe with automatic transmission until one morning when i went to go to work and started my car as usual

The car started BUT wouldn't get out of PARK!

I noticed that the floor mounted gear selector lever wouldn't disengage because at the top left side of the gear selector lever it wasn't depressing inward!

Any ideas! or help would be appreciated
