This time, I took the part back to advance for a replacement. After receiving the part, I had it replaced on 09/11/09. The serviceman who had been unhooking it, so it wouldn't run my battery down must have felt sorry for me. He unhooked the old one and put the replacement one in free. STILL MORE TO COME!

I fixed the problem with the water coming in under the dashboard. I bought a new heater motor resistor on 08/22/09 and had it installed the same day. It lasted until 08/28/09 and quit again on my way to work. MORE TO FOLLOW!!!

I am so pissed off I always wanted a grand prix finally got one. I left work today and realized my fan was blowing at top speed when I turned it off I realized it wasn't on. I got home at 11pm and in my garage started pulling fuses until I got it one that turned it off. WTF how much is this B/S going to cost to fix !!!!! With the car completely off fuse out I put the fuse back in and the fan started right back up. They just don't make cars the way they used to. Is this the relay stuck does anyone know tell me so I can fix it my damn self. !!!!!

I come home after working a long week at Fort Dix and I had to return the rental car back to BWI when I hop in my car to run my coworker to the airport i turned on my A/C and begin driving not thinking about anything until i was going down I95 and realize that my blower was blowing at full blast and i had it turned up two notches and I was like ok and then I turned it off and it was still blowing! So now im pissed!!! So I had thought that maybe i could remove a fuse to keep it from running down my battery and that didn't work either so at that point i removed the negative terminal and shut it off and then out of curiosity i connected it again and it begin blowing! SO NOW im really mad because it now said theft system disabled my starting of my vehicle! SO NOW I CAN"T START MY CAR....ughhhhhh!!! WTF NOW!!!! So i tried to see if I was able to get into my DIC but no luck and the damn manual didn't help a damn bit so now that damn factory theft system disabled my car and i also noticed that it was spitting out SERVICE ABS, SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM, CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE, and so forth and those have never come up before! I serviced my brake 4 months ago so now im like HOT under the collar because this is total bulls**t!!! Now I come to this site and read this and it totally made me even madder that this could have been a recall and taken care of by GM but now I see why they are bankrupt and in trouble with the consumer! That makes me positive that I won't EVER buy another GM vehicle in my life again! Consumers are usually right and if you don't cater to us then risk going out of business!

I too have the same problem with the blower not shutting off. I did attend a GM Dealership today and shared some of the complaints I had printed off this site with the Parts & Service Employees. Unfortunately for me I was advised the same as all of you that this was not a recall. Being the positive person that I am I ended up purchasing a control module for $96.52 CDN and took it home to install it myself (no need to pay someone $85 an hour). I was advised it should only take two beers to finish it by the service guy.
This module is still not installed as of yet. It would appear as the person who designed the location of the module must have been drinking too. It is wedged tight up against the firewall and for some reason GM decided to cheap out and put some kinda bull sh*t plastic rivet to secure the factory module.
I am frustrated and my back is sore. If anyone out there knows hows these stupid rivets come off please let me know it would be appreciated. I don't figure I will get a response from a GM worker ....there probably drinking.

As you can tell this is a big problem with all the complaints. This should be a recall. No wonder GM is going under when they don't stand by their product.

I did an oil change, and checked the cabin filter which was completely black with mold. This was a result of the cowling being warped and rain / windshield fluid leaks down into the filter (making it moldy), then down into the blower motor / blower resistor compartment, which will short out either or both components. I had to replace my resistor and I plan to do what it takes to prevent leaks in the cowling. A good thing to do before replacing the resistor is to also check the Amperage draw of your blower motor and make sure it's in spec. The FLA rating should be on the blower motor housing. If your draw is greater than the FLA on high fan speed, you may need to replace the blower motor as it is drawing too much power will blow your resistor.

This is ridiculous... I just bought my car. I had the car for 2 weeks and the blower motor just keeps running. First it wouldn't work at all and then I got in my car the next day and it wouldn't shut off!! I have to unplug the battery every time I get out of my car!! This should be a recall as I have seen many other people with the same complaint!

OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT GM HAS WITH THE GRAND PRIX, ALONG WITH OTHERS.....THE THING THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF WITH THIS ISSUE WAS THE DEALERSHIP WAS A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS. IT TOOK THEM OVER A WEEK TO GET THE PARTS AND I GOT NOTHING BUT EXCUSES FROM THEM. W/E SH*T HAPPENS I JUST WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR MORE THEN TWO WEEKS AT A TIME BEFORE IT GOES INTO THE SHOP AGAIN!!!!

I got in my car and it turned on full blast (luckily the battery was not already dead like some others), and when I stopped it did not go off. So I called the dealership and told him. He said he has had some similar problems and told me it was a resistor. I am not sure if he is correct, but he looked through his wiring diagram and told me to pull the fuse (under the hood) #30. It is a 30 amp battery main 4 I believe. He said it may reset my radio, but it did not. This keeps the fan off and does not run down the battery. This is easier than unhooking your battery. I have not had it in to the shop yet, but will soon.
Update from Dec 27, 2009: I had it fixed and it worked fine for a while, and then the fan went out. I am pretty sure it is getting shorted out due to water getting where it should not be getting. They did replace some cowling to keep water from going in the wrong place. The good news for me is that things that repeatedly go wrong are under a one year parts and labor warranty. So in the end for this particular problem (seems to re-occur and in shorter time than a year), I say pay to have it fixed once and then hopefully get it fixed for free. If it continues to go out you will save money in the long run.

I just had the same problem but have not fixed it yet. I hate you GM. I have tried to pull all fuses and relays related to fans and HVAC and nothing shuts it off besides disconnecting the battery. So I keep the blower unplugged under the dash.
I found a Technical Service Bulletin (link at bottom of complaint) and I purchased a capacitor ($15 new) and a blower module ($30 used). Have not replaced yet and hope it works but.....Complaint #7 gives good info. This person helped me realize that the cowl on the bottom of my windshield is also warped and does not seal out water which probably causes the blower motor to short out and ruin the logic in the blower module. I will attempt to replace the module and install the capacitor and find a way to seal out the water. If I fix the problem I will try to respond back with the details.

Last summer i went out to take my Grand Prix for a drive, and it was dead. It doesn't get driven often, and spends its life in the garage. I was surprised when it didn't start, especially when i know that the car is equipped with Battery Rundown Protection. I put it on the charger and heard the fan running, and the key was in my pocket. I looked closer, and i found the fan control off, and the ignition off. I have placed a switch in the ground circuit for the blower motor and attached it to the lower IP out of sight. I have not looked at it in much detail, as i don't drive it often, and don't think about it. I saw that someone had replaced the blower motor and module, as well as repair a leak that is causing the issue. I am going to look into this issue and will report back soon. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

At 79,000 miles on my grand prix the blower motor would not shut off even with the key out. I replaced the blower motor module, and 2000 miles later the same thing happened again. This time i replaced the module and blower motor. I think though i have found what everyone is looking for. The cowl is warped from the sun from poor mounting by GM. There is water pouring in from the cowl when it rains. the cabin filter sits right there collecting water and below that is the blower motor which the water is shorting out and the module. The cabin filter is full of black mold which i will be taking up with GM. SO EVERYONE OUT THERE LETS PULL TOGETHER TO GET THESE CARS RECALLED BEFORE SOMEBODY BECOMES VERY ILL. ALSO TO STOP THIS ANNOYING AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM.

Went to start my car this morning. The battery was dead. I charged it and noticed that the fan was running as the battery was charging. Completed the charge and disconnected the charger from the battery. The blower was still running. I attempted to turn it of by turning the knob counter clockwise into the off position. The blower continues to run. I also noticed that my steering column is not locked, as it usually is when the key is out of the ignition.
I assume that this is why my battery is dead (non stoppable blower).

As you can imagine, I'm very upset that this problem keeps happening. I don't know if it's something else that causes these resistors to continue to mess up or it's the store I got them at (Advance Auto). PLEASE HELP!!! This is getting very expensive. Who wants to have to unhook the battery cable every time they need to run somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update from Sep 22, 2009: On September 18th, I went to a GM Dealership and bought a new heater motor for ($120.69) and a heater module for ($63.34). I got a local mechanic to install both of these in my car (it took about 25 minutes) and he only charged me ($20.00). Right away, I noticed that the noises that had been continuing when I only put in the module were gone. I don't know if it was the heater motor or the module I had been getting from Advance Auto. I think it was probably the heater motor. I'm hoping this fixed the problem, so I also hope you don't hear from me again.
