This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Transmission failed for second time, vehicle has fewer than 60,000 miles. Vehicle has a system which basically shuts down the vehicle when a "warning" is generated, and the vehicle stopped suddenly in the middle of traffic. Would have been a major issue if I have been on a freeway.
I was driving to monterrey, ca, when the transmission slipped out of gear, and would not work anymore. It was towed to my BMW in seaside, ca, where they determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The mechanics all said this should never have happened with a BMW. They all said the first service required on a BMW was at 100,000 miles, and that all they do is change the transmission fluid.
