Air bag sensor on passenger side of 2006 BMW 325I has failed, causing the air bag sensor warning lamp and dash light to stay continuously illuminated. It appears (by a third light above the passenger seat, near the mirror and sun roof controls) that the passenger air bag is disabled. BMW service center (global imports BMW, atlanta ga) claims no recall has been issued for individual car by checking VIN #, but problem matches NHTSA campaign id number: 08V384000. Research online indicates many other BMW owners with 2006 BMW's have experienced similar issues with the air bag sensor and seems were not contacted for the recall. BMW should extend the warranty to cover all 2006 bmws with this issue.

I own a 2006 BMW 325 (sprt pckg). The air bag warning light illuminated on the dashboard. My problem is described on the NHTSA recall id 08V384000 (air bags: Frontal). The mileage is approx 70,000. BMW says my VIN doesn't qualify, however my car still obviously has a problem, and BMW is in denial. I've also noted other complaints on safetycar.gov with similar BMW interactions. BMW is avoiding responsibility, and the NHTSA needs to do more to protect our safety.

Failure of front passenger airbag on 2006 BMW 330I. Small cracks have developed in the sensor mat within the front passenger seat. The cracks have deactivated the airbag, which affect the safety of passengers in the event of a severe accident. No undue external force has been applied to the seat. There have been no collisions, etc. The failure occurred after 4 years, approximately 40,000 miles. A previous recall has been issued for the same year, make, and model (08V384000); however it does not apply to my VIN number. BMW is unwilling to replace and repair parts due to defects in parts and craftsmanship.

I purchased the 2006 BMW in 11/2009/ I had a notice online last month about the voluntary airbag re-call. The notice was in red on the top of my payment page. When I contacted the dealer about the condensation and mentioned this to them. Then I contacted the BMW and they said it is not one of the vehicles 30 days later. Recall# 08V384000.. this is very strange. Everytime I place my purse on the front passenger seat the light for the front-passenger airbag lights up. It only turns off when I remove my purse. BMW states that my vehicle was not involved. I did not receive any notice except for the warning message on my account last month. I purchased the vehicle certified pre-owned in 11/2009.

I am an owner of a 2006 BMW 325I with approximately 70K miles. Just recently, I noted that warning lights indicating failure of the air bag/supplemental restraint system. I took my vehicle to a local mechanic who indicated that the failure code was tied to an inoperable passenger detection mat. He went on to indicate that there was a documented recall/warranty extension related to this issue. I contacted my local BMW dealer who told me that the recall/warranty did not apply to my vehicle as it was manufactured after November 30th, 2005. I am filing this complaint as it is evident that the scope of their recall was not sufficient to cover all cars with this issue, as I have noted many other complaints similar to mine. I feel it is incumbent upon NHTSA to push for expansion of this remedy as BMW is clearly derelict in its obligation to address significant safety issues with its products.
