The right headlight went out while backing out of garage, with a warning light came on indicating right side. I got out and verified this and both low and high beam did not work on Rt side of vehicle. Took to a local garage (not BMW) and he removed the headlight assembly and he showed me wires in side with the coating flaking off exposing the copper wire in several places. Said he would have to replace the Rt side assembly. He came back after calling parts supplier and said the repair would cost $1,700. to replace assembly. I almost #$%& in my pants and told him to put old assembly back in the car. I paid him $100. for his labor.
In searching You Tube videos on how to remove the headlight assembly, I found it an easy task to remove so I started searching for the price of another headlight assembly on line. I checked with eEuroparts and they told me my car needed an adaptive headlight assembly and it cost $1,087. and that did not include bi-xenon bulbs or the control module. Cheaper than the garage, but still unacceptable to me. If it happened to the right headlight, I assume some time in the near future same thing will happen on the left side and cost another bundle of cash.
So now I am going to pursue finding out if I can just buy new right and left headlight assemblies that do not have the adaptive headlights, which are significantly cheaper, and replace both on the car. Big problem is I don't know if I can do that and if it will work. Just don't know who can answer my question.
