The wiring insulation is inadequate for the heat generated by the lamps. Over time the insulation becomes brittle and exposes the copper wire inside. The result is the lamps short out. This is a huge safety issue as both lamps could go out. There is no way to replace the inner wire harness inside the lamp modules. The entire lamp assembly must be replaced at an astronomical cost.
My headlights flicker or drain the battery because they short out. It is annoying to other drivers when it flickers. They flash their lights back at me or leave them on bright making it very difficult and dangerous to drive.
This should be a recall by HELLA, the manufacturer of the lamp module.
